FuzEvent®,
the Solution to the Incineration Challenge
The FuzEvent® Control Strategy,
Easy and Fast Implementation
FuzEvent optimizes plant operation while taking into consideration the
complex process dynamics of the plant
The FuzEvent® package is an open system where the user has access to the
control logic through all the control parameters and calculations
 Fast reactions, without overreacting, to cope with the
Fast Implementation
The main control challenges on waste incineration plants:
fluctuations in waste composition and to avoid capacity
loss
FuzEvent® Integration
 Very fast-varying changes in the waste fuel composition
 Waiting time after an adjustment to allow the process to
FuzEvent® is installed on a separate PC with a standard link to the
existing DCS system.
A FuzEvent® system is implemented within max. 3
months.
The FuzEvent® receives data (i.e. furnace temperature, O2 levels,
steam flow etc.) from the process, and returns control signals to the
DCS system (i.e. waste feeder speed, primary air, secondary air etc.)
as indicated in figure 1.
The FuzEvent® Control Strategy is based on Dublix
Engineering expertise and on design meetings with the
plant management and operators. The FuzEvent®
System contains a standard control loops library which
will be adjusted in order to correspond to the specific
needs of the plant.
The Complexity of Combustion Control
 Long time delays from control actions to process reaction
 The combustion control must reflect the actual state and
limits of the combustion fans, the furnace, the level of
boiler fouling and flue gas cleaning
A control strategy based on PID controllers dynamics is not
the best way to cope with the combustion control on a waste
incinerator.
Many ERF/WtE plants are operated in manual mode and the
efficiency of the individual operator teams shows very different combustion efficiency.
®
Usual Benefits from the FuzEvent System
 Improvement of the combustion stability by 30%
 Lower flue gas emissions, 50-80% less CO, 20% less NOx
react
 Previous control actions checks when evaluating the
next adjustment
 Operator interference in combustion control is limited
The FuzEvent® Control System and the implemented
strategy handle the parameters and interventions
recommended in the EU Reference Document on the Best
Available Techniques (BAT) for Waste Incineration (August
2006).
The basic control functions in the existing DCS system remain unchanged.
FuzEvent® ensures a consistent control strategy 24 hours a
day while operating the plant all the time like the most
experienced operator.
 The Dublix Waste-to-Energy Control Algorithms (DWCA)
The control rules are easy to modify and improve, and the
plant operators and specialists can easily understand and
participate in defining new ideas to the control strategy.
 Commissioning
Everything is included in the FuzEvent package:
 The FuzEvent® software and licence, for plant control optimization
Performance monitoring
Management and operators can easily follow the performance of the plant, simple KPIs seen in figure 3 show
the efficiency and stability of the combustion.
 PC with a Microsoft Office licence, for reporting
 iFIX licence, for user-friendly operator interface screens
Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
 Performance test
 Waste treatment capacity increased by 3-5%
 Steam Production increased by 3-5%
 Better burnout of the waste
Fig. 1, Typical FuzEvent® control strategy structure
Fig. 2, FuzEvent® System Configuration
 Better handling of wet waste
Typical Results of a FuzEvent® optimized incinerator
 Pay back time 3-5 months
Efficient Service
 Operator intervention in the process is reduced by 80-95%
 Ongoing feedback from operators for process improvement
Dublix Engineering offers a Service Contract Concept
in order to keep the system and the strategy up-todate which ensures optimal plant operation on the
long term.
 Fast implementation of new ideas from operators.
The Dublix Engineering Solution
Dublix Engineering provides very fast and efficient
online support on the system through a secured internet connection.
Based on over 20 years of practical work with control of
waste incinerators, Dublix Engineering has developed a
unique control scheme, which includes the following
features:
FuzEvent® in service of your combustion process
makes the work done by your operators 5-10% more efficient
