NEW CENTRE MANAGER SOUGHT The Bradfield Club in Peckham (5-13 Commercial Way, Peckham, London SE15 6DQ) has provided a safe and welcoming centre for young people for over 100 years. The present Centre Manager will be taking up employment elsewhere in October 2016 and the CIO is keen to appoint a person able to take on the position as soon as possible. Job Description (August 2016) Centre Manager Background The Bradfield Club exists to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people (aged 4 – 16) in the Peckham area, now and in the future, by providing a safe place for them to belong and by enabling them to develop life skills. Based in the heart of the Peckham, we are ideally situated to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people within our area. The Club works with 4-16 year olds and divides all its sessions into three age groups: 4-10 year olds, 11-16 year olds. We provide activities such as football, basketball, video-editing, cooking, art, dance and tennis. We also run small group sessions and single-sex only sessions as well as offering one-to-one support for our members. In doing all this, we seek to be a Club at the heart of community development. Accountability You will be accountable to the trustees of the Bradfield Club, which is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (“CIO”). Reports to the CIO and its committees will be expected every two months. You will also be required to attend supervisions with the Chair. Job Summary The post-holder will play a key role in ensuring The Bradfield Club remains: · True to its constitution · Relevant to the children, young people and families of Peckham · Run according to best practise guidelines for all who work, volunteer and attend the Club 1 Main duties and responsibilities 1. Strategy and Leadership ➡ Oversee, evaluate and develop all the Club’s activities. ➡ Together with the CIO, responsible for putting together and agreeing the Club's three year Strategy. Responsible for the implementation of this strategy and for achieving the desired outcomes. ➡ Ensure consistent and effective communication through appropriate means to key stakeholders. Attend meetings of the CIO and its committees and co-operate with them in their oversight of the Club ➡ Raise the profile of the Club in the local community and further afield. ➡ Ensure that all policies & procedures are up-to-date and are being implemented. This includes a wide range of policies and procedures such as Child Protection, Health and Safety, HR, Fire Safety, Finance etc. ➡ Ensure the Club is upholding best practices in all its areas of responsibility by completing the London Youth Quality Mark Quality Assurance programmer. 2. Staff Management ➡ Accountable to manage and develop The Bradfield Club staff and volunteer team. 3. Youth and Children’s Work ➡ Ensure that the youth and children’s work is kept front and centre of all that is done at the Bradfield Club including maximising resources for the youth and children’s work ➡ Achieve the planned deliverables and desired outcomes defined in the 3 year Strategy and Annual Budget ➡ Build relationships with the young people who attend the Club and their families ➡ Work with the youth and children’s team to develop appropriate strategies to achieve the Club’s charitable objectives, including growing the Club’s activities from their present state. ➡ Oversee, evaluate and develop the effectiveness of the Club’s activities. ➡ Be trained in, attentive to and responsible for Child Protection and Safeguarding issues, including dealing with Child Protection incidents and allegations. ➡ Responsible for developing young leaders who attend the Club. 2 4. Building Management ➡ Maintain and develop the building as a safe, engaging and attractive oasis within the neighbourhood. ➡ Ensure effective use of the Club’s building including equipment, storage and room space towards the end of effective youth and children’s work. 5. Financial Management and Performance Reporting ➡ Agree an annual financial budget with the CIO and manage the costs to operate within it. ➡ Assist the CIO’s Treasurer and the Club Administrator with overseeing and managing the Club’s day-to-day finances. ➡ Report Weekly or Monthly as required on the achievement of the desired outcomes to demonstrate the extent to which the Club is adding value and fulfilling its charitable purpose 6. Community Engagement ➡ Attend relevant community meetings/discussions/events that will benefit the Club ➡ Network and build relationships with local organisations where this will benefit the Club ➡ Work with the Club’s partners in order to grow and develop the work of the Club. Terms and Conditions ➡ Hours: Full time (with evening, weekend and residential work as required, where weekend or bank holiday work is required, time off in lieu may be taken) ➡ Location: The Bradfield Club, 5-13 Commercial Way, Peckham, SE15 6DQ ➡ Holiday: 5 weeks per annum ➡ Salary: £34,000 ➡ Notice period: Contractual 3 months ➡ Subject to an enhanced CRB check and a six month probationary period. ➡ Accountability: This post holder will be a signatory on Club accounts and will be accountable accordingly. ➡ Training: You will be required to attend all relevant Bradfield Club training events. 3 ➡ Other Duties: · Planning and running of large-scale events · Responsibility for administration of office work · Other duties as required by the demands of the role Centre Manager Person Specification The right candidate will be an experienced and confident manager who is able to lead a growing organisation and who has the passion and commitment to manage and develop services that make a real difference in children and young people’s lives. Experience of community-based youth work Demonstrably committed to empowering young people Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal. Proven excellence in staff and team management. Excellent planning and organisation skills Confidence to work independently and with initiative Excellent interpersonal skills Thorough understanding of the issues affecting the lives of young people in Peckham Ability to confidently lead a changing and flexible organisation Desirable Criteria: o o o o Successful fundraising experience Previous experience of working in partnership relationships with multiple organisations Previous experience in marketing and service placement within a community Previous experience in implementing necessary policies and procedures within an organisation o Trained in Children’s and Youth Work Practices and Principles Essential Conditions: o You will consent to undertaking an enhanced CRB check o You will consent to being the personal licence holder of the Bradfield Club o You will consent to working evenings, and weekends as required Desirable Conditions: You will have a full UK driving licence. 4 5
