each unique; account numbers; signature; pay each month) (4 minutes)
ACTIVITY
1. Explain to students that most things in life have both a positive aspect and a negative aspect.
Give students examples. Then ask: Can you tell me some of the positive aspects of eating
candy? What are the negative aspects of eating candy? Tell the class that today we are going
to look at using credit cards. We will be talking about how they work and both their positive
and negative aspects. (2 minutes)
2. Post the terms: Credit Cards, Positive Aspects of Using Credit Cards, Negative Aspects of
Using Credit Cards, Having Good Credit, and Paying Credit Cards written on large chart
paper in six different locations in the classroom. Then have students do a gallery walk around
to each chart and write their own prediction to define each term or give examples to describe
the terms. Review and share answers. (5 minutes)
3. Explain to students that now they are going to play a game. The game will provide situations
that are about the positive aspects of using credit cards and the negative aspects of using credit
cards. When you land on a “situation” that is positive, you will be able to move forward.
When you land on a “situation” that shows a negative aspect of credit card usage, you will
have to go back spaces.
 Provide each group of 4 students with dice and a copy of the Road to Good Credit board
game.
 Students will roll dice and read the spots on the board game layout to determine if they
can roll again or lose a turn. The winner will arrive to Success Street when they have
made good credit decisions along the way. (15 minutes)

credit decision making and bad decision making on either side of a 3x5 index card. (4 minutes)
OPTIONAL EXTENSION SUGGESTION/HOME LEARNING
