First Round of Section Play
The girls basketball team rallied from an 8 point deficit at half to pull out an
exciting 56-53 victory over the Pillager Huskies Thursday night. After a slow
start offensively and some sloppy play the girls found themselves trailing 31-23
at the half. However, a quick 7-0 run brought the girls within 1 point early in the
second half. After several back and forth possessions a pair of Taylor Ehnstrom
threes established a lead that the Lady Gobblers would never give back.
Brooke Miller gutted through an ankle sprain to finish with 13 points, while
Taylor Ehnstrom scored 12 points and Ellie Michaletz added 11 points. The
bench played huge with freshman Kaija Davies and Jillian MacDonald
contributing major minutes. Davies finished the game with a team high 8
rebounds. Maggi Fellerman and Naomi Lane added 8 and 6 points respectively.
The win improves their season record to 22-5, but more importantly allows
them to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday. The ladies with take on the
Esko Eskimos who are currently ranked 3rd in the state. The game will be
played at Duluth Denfeld high school and tips at 7:30 pm! The crowd and
especially our student section deserve an enormous thank you! You were a
huge part of the difference with all of that wonderful support! Thank you and
don't forget to bring it with you on Saturday to Denfeld High School!
Aitkin vs Mora played at Aitkin February 25th
The varsity girls basketball team finished the regular season last night with a
great win over the Mora Mustangs. The final score ended at 62-44. Ellie
Michaletz led the way for the Gobblers in scoring with 17 points. Maggi
Fellerman played strong scoring 13 points, while Taylor Ehnstrom and Brooke
Miller added 12 points apiece. Taylor Ehnstrom dished out 7 assists as Brooke
Miller added 5 more. The win brings their regular season to a 21-5 finish. The
girls will be hosting in the first round of the sectional playoffs on Thursday,
March 3rd. The game will begin at 7:00pm.
A special thanks to all of the military service men and women who attended as
we recognized them last night at the game. Thank you and congratulations to
all of our high school students who are also pursuing this career from the halls
of our school.
Aitkin vs Ogilvie played at Aitkin February 18th
The varsity girls basketball team got back on the winning track last night as
they picked up their 20th victory against the Ogilvie Lions. The final score was
71-43. Taylor Ehnstrom led all scorers with 21 points, as she connected on 7
three pointers. Brooke Miller had 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Naomi Lane
earned a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds as well.
With this win, the girls are the 2016 Great River Conference Champions!
Congratulations girls on a job well done! The ladies will travel to the Target
Center tomorrow to play the Proctor Rails in non-conference play.
Aitkin vs Pequot Lakes played at Aitkin February 16th
Last night the varsity girls basketball team fell to the Pequot Patriots 71-46. The
girls started out solid with the score 14-13 midway through the first half.
However, turnovers led to a Pequot run to finish the half and the Gobblers
trailed 39-22 at the break. The ladies opened the second half well with an 8-2
run, cutting the lead to 41-30 but never got closer. Leading the way offensively
were Taylor Ehnstrom with 15 points and Maggi Fellerman with 13 points. The
girls are now 19-4 on the season and look to get back on track against the
Ogilvie Lions Thursday night. This will also be parents' night!
Aitkin vs Rush City played at Rush City February 12th
The Lady Gobblers fell in a heartbreaker to the Rush City Tigers on Friday
night. The game was a back and forth battle with neither team leading by more
than 5 points. The ladies went in at the half with a 20-19 lead. The girls battled
hard, but turnovers and cold shooting down the stretch cost them, as they lost
44-43. Brooke Miller led the team offensively with 12 points and 7 assists. Ellie
Michaletz scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Taylor Ehnstrom
connected on 3 three pointers to finish with 9 points and 4 steals. The girls are
19-3 and host a huge section matchup with the top ranked Pequot Lakes
Patriots. Please come fill up the gym and cheer the girls on tonight!
Aitkin vs Crosby played at Aitkin February 11th
The varsity girls basketball team looked to avenge an earlier loss in the season
at the hands of the CI Rangers and came out with 56-48 victory tonight! The
girls played hard-nosed defense and chipped away both inside and connecting
from the outside to build a 27-21 lead at the half. Crosby was able to pull within
one early in the second half and as close as four late in the game, but every
time the Gobblers answered with a string of baskets to reestablish their lead.
Leading the way offensively were Taylor Ehnstrom and Ellie Michaletz with 22
and 19 points respectively. Ehnstrom connected on 6 three pointers, while
Michaletz added a pair of threes as well. Maggi Fellerman grabbed 10 boards,
and Naomi Lane also collected 8 rebounds on the night. Great bench play from
Sam Forster, Jillian MacDonald, and Casey Coombs helped to keep the Ranger
offense in check all night. A huge thank you goes out to our pep band and
student section who filled the gym with an awesome atmosphere! The win
improves the girls to 19-2 on the year as they travel to Rush City for another
huge matchup on Friday night.
In addition the evening was a thank you and tribute to all of the service
agencies that "Protect and Serve" our communities. We had DNR, Sheriff's
Department, Aitkin PD, State Troopers, local Firefighters in addition to law
enforcement agencies and fire departments from the Crosby area in
attendance. Nearly, $2,800 was raised for the first annual "203" Memorial
Scholarship in honor of fallen officer Steven Sandberg. Thank you to all of those
who made donations to make this event possible!
Aitkin vs Braham played at Aitkin February 5th
The girls basketball team picked up another big win on Friday night as they
defeated the Braham Bombers by a score of 56-40. Balanced scoring was key
on offense. Maggi Fellerman and Brooke Miller led the way with 14 and 12
points each. Taylor Ehnstrom scored 9 points, while Naomi Lane and Ellie
Michaletz added 8 points each. Ellie Michaletz grabbed 8 rebounds while Steph
Blazek collected 7 rebounds. Sam Forster and Steph Blazek also dished out 4
assists apiece on the night. The win pulls them to 17-2 on the season and 12-1
in Great River Conference play. Tomorrow night the girls will host the HinckleyFinlayson Jaguars. This will also be senior recognition night, so come cheer on
the girls!
Aitkn vs Isle played at Isle February 1st
The girls basketball team traveled to Isle for a big GRC matchup. The Gobblers
chipped away in the first half building a 26-19 halftime lead. The girls never
looked back outscoring the Huskies 35-15 in the second half, earning their 16th
win of the year by a final score of 61-34. Taylor Ehnstrom and Brooke Miller led
the way scoring 21 and 20 points respectively. Ehnstrom connected on 6 three
pointers, while Miller hit three of them. Brooke also distributed the ball well with
a team high 7 assists. Naomi Lane played strong, tallying 10 points and 11
rebounds for a double double. Sam Forster and Steph Blazek put the clamps on
defensively, keeping Isle's explosive guards in check. The team is 16-2 overall
and 11-1 in GRC play. The ladies are preparing for a huge conference matchup
this Friday night as they host the Braham Bombers. Help us Black Out the gym

Aitkin vs East Central played at East Central January 28th
Last night the girls basketball team traveled to East Central for a Great River
Conference matchup. The ladies came home with a 54-31 victory. Offensively
Taylor Ehnstrom and Maggi Fellerman led the way. Taylor finished with a team
high 17 points, including 5 three pointers. Maggi Fellerman reached double
digits again with 15 points. Sam Forster and Naomi Lane played strong off the
bench adding 6 points each. Brooke Miller applied the pressure defensively
with 9 deflections and 5 steals. After falling behind 8-0 early, the girls locked
down the defensive end, finishing the first half on a 27-5 run. The girls are now
15-2 on the season and will travel to Isle on Monday for another big conference
match up.
Aitkin vs Onamia played at Onamia January 22nd
The varsity girls basketball team traveled to Onamia this past Friday, and came
home with their 14th win of the season. The final score was 51-32. Leading the
Gobblers with a double-double was Maggi Fellerman, scoring 15 points and
pulling down a season high 14 rebounds. Taylor Ehnstrom connected on 3 deep
balls and finished with 14 points, while Brooke Miller reached double digits as
well with 13 points, 7 deflections and 8 rebounds. Steph Blazek and Sam
Forster distributed the ball well, dishing out 5 assists each! The girls are now 91 in Great River Conference play and travel to East Central on Thursday try and
pick up their 10th conference victory.
Aitkin vs Barnum played at Aitkin January 19th
The varsity girls basketball team improved to 13-2 on the season as they
defeated the Barnum Bombers in convincing fashion. The final score was 70-32.
Taylor Ehnstrom and Ellie Michaletz led the way for the Gobblers. Ehnstrom
finished the night with a team high 21 points, including 4 three pointers.
Michaletz finished the game with a double-double, scoring 17 points and
grabbing 10 rebounds. Brooke Miller scored 9 points and had 5 steals
defensively. Naomi Lane and Casey Coombs played big minutes off of the
bench as Lane added 8 points on the scoreboard. Coombs added a big
defensive spark with 6 deflections and 4 steals to go with her 4 points. The girls
are leading the Great River Conference at 8-1 and will travel to Onamia on
Friday in search of their ninth conference victory.
Aitkin vs Pine City played at Aitkin January 15th
The varsity girls basketball team pulledo out a hard fought Great River
Conference win over rival Pine City. The final score was 38-33. The Dragons
had beaten the Gobblers 52-51 earlier in the season and were second in the
conference behind Aitkin. Sophomore Maggi Fellerman stepped up with 13
pionts. Taylor Ehnstrom and Brooke Miller added 8 points each, while Ellie
Michaletz added 6 points. Defense was the key as the girls played wonderful
helpside and dominated the glass with a 39-27 rebounding edge. Key FTs by
Ellie Michaletz and Brooke Miller helped seal the game down the stretch. The
girls improved to 12-2 on the year and will host the Barnum Bombers tomorrow
night!
Aitkin vs Ogilvie played at Ogilvie January 12th
The girls basketball team improved to 11-2 last night by defeating the Ogilvie
Lions 77-47 in Great River Conference play. The girls jumped out early and built
a 39-18 lead at the half and never looked back. Ellie Michaletz led the way with
another double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
Brooke Miller and Taylor Ehnstrom scored 11 points each, while Maggi
Fellerman added 9 points. Ehnstrom also dished a game high 7 assists. The
bench was very active in the game as well. Ramsey Moe scored 7 points, while
Naomi Lane and Kaija Davies scored 6 points each. The girls will host the Pine
City Dragons in a big Great River Conference matchup this Friday night!
Aitkin vs Isle game played at Aitkin January 5th
Last night the girls basketball team pulled out a hard fought victory against the
Isle Huskies. The girls got off to a great start, jumping out to an 8-0 lead, and
went in at the half with a 27-20 margin. However, cold shooting stumped the
Gobblers for a stretch of the second half. Trailing 45-41 with 4:00 minutes left,
the girls finished the game on a 12-4 run to secure the win. Ellie Michaletz led
the way with 16 points, while Taylor Ehnstrom continued her 3 point shooting
threat by scoring 15 points. Brooke Miller played strong down the stretch,
finishing with 12 points, while Maggi Fellerman added 8 points. The girls are
now 9-2 on the season and will travel to Hinckley this Friday to play the Jaguars
Aitkin Quarterbacks Tournament over Christmas Break
The Girls Basketball Team celebrated the Christmas Break with their 8th
consecutive Holiday Tournament Championship! In the first round, the ladies
defeated the Greenway Raiders by a score of 83-24. Taylor Ehnstrom matched
her season high with four three pointers and 17 points, while Sophomore Maggi
Fellerman scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Leading on the glass was
Ellie Michaletz with 8 rebounds. All said 13 different girls reached the scoring
column in a great team effort. Taylor Ehnstrom and Brooke Miller each
collected 5 steals as the girls improved to 7-2 and advanced to the
championship against Deer River.
In the championship round, Aitkin won a hard, physical game by a final score of
68-57. On a night where getting the ball to drop through the bucket, the girls
had to battle for a tough victory. Balanced scoring was key offensively with 4
girls reaching double figures. Ellie Michaletz, Brooke Miller and Maggi
Fellerman each scored 12 points, while Taylor Ehnstrom added 11 points.
Michaletz recorded a double-double on the night by grabbing 10 rebounds,
while Brooke Miller and Naomi Lane pulled down 9 and 8 rebounds
respectively. The girls were aggressive and got to the line 49 times during the
contest. With the victory, the girls now improve to 8-2 on the season and host
the Isle Huskies Tuesday night here in Aitkin. JV tips at 6:00 with the varsity
starting at 7:30pm.

Aitkin vs Crosby game was played at Crosby
12/19/15
The Lady Gobblers came home from Crosby with a disappointing 64-55 defeat
at the hands of the Rangers. The girls jumped out to an early lead of 9-2, but
cold shooting and foul trouble plagued them throughout the game. After trailing
by as much as 12, the girls rallied in the second half, cutting the score to 47-43,
but could get no closer down the stretch. Taylor Ehnstroms had a great game,
hitting four three pointers and finishing with a team high 17 points. Senior
Brooke Miller tallied 16 points and 6 rebounds, while Maggi Fellerman added 9
points on the night. The ladies fall to 6-2 on the year. Their next game will be
December 29th at home against Greenway in the first round of the QB Holiday
Tournament.

Aitkin vs East Central games was played at Aitkin
12/18/15
The girls basketball team hosted the East Central Eagles on Friday, December
18th in Great River Conference play. The Lady Gobblers came of out the gym
with a 71-49 victory. Maggi Fellerman led all scorers with 19 points, while
pulling down a team high 9 rebounds. Senior Brooke Miller had a solid evening
with 15 points, 5 deflections and 3 steals. Bench play was key as Naomi Lane
tallied 12 points and 5 rebounds, while senior Casey Coombs scored 8 points
on the evening. Taylor Ehnstrom dished out 5 assists as the Gobblers improve
to 6-1 on the season. The last game before the Christmas Break will be
Saturday, as they travel to Ranger Country to take on Crosby.

Aitkin vs Braham game was played at Braham
The girls basketball team traveled to Braham last night and picked up a huge
conference victory by a score of 46-44. The ladies trailed 23-16 at the half,
struggling with fouls and cold shooting. With 8 minutes left in the game, the
Lady Gobblers were down by 9, trailing 34-25 when they dialed up the full court
pressure. The Gobblers finished the game on a 21-10 run, pulling out their first
victory at Braham since 2009! Leading the Gobblers in scoring were senior
Brooke Miller and freshman Ramsey Moe with 11 points each. Maggi Fellerman
and Ellie Michaletz each added 7 points, while Taylor Ehnstrom added 6 points.
The girls dominated the boards with 38 rebounds, including 12 by Maggi
Fellerman, 7 from Ellie Michaletz and 6 rebounds from Taylor Ehnstrom. Brooke
Miller had 6 defensive deflections, while Ramsey Moe had 3 steals. The girls
improve to 5-1 on the season and will host the East Central Eagles this Friday
night. Game starts at 7:30.

Aitkin vs Rush City game was played at Aitkin
The girls basketball team rallied after a slow start against the Rush City Tigers
on Friday night to pick up their 4th win of the season. The final score was 52-33.
Cold shooting in the first half found the Gobblers tied at 14 by halftime.
However, the girls came out with a vengeance in the second half, building a 17
point lead early in the second half and cruising down the stretch. Leading the
way for the Gobblers was sophomore Maggi Fellerman with 14 points, while
Brooke Miller and Ellie Michaletz added 9 and 7 points respectively. Taylor
Ehnstrom and Naomi Lane added 6 points each.
Defensively, the girls shut down the Tiger offense, allowing them to only shoot
27% from the field. Taylor Ehnstrom and Ellie Michaletz collected 4 steals each,
while Steph Blazek and Sam Forster played relentless defense, combining for 8
deflections and 4 steals. Ramsey Moe and Jillian MacDonald played key
minutes off of the bench scoring 4 and 2 points each.
The girls improve to 4-1 on the season and travel tomorrow night for another
huge GRC matchup with the Braham Bombers. The game tips in Braham at
7:30pm.

Aitkin vs Foley game was played at Aitkin
The girls basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 54-37 victory
over the Foley Falcons. Balanced scoring and solid defense were key. Juniors
Taylor Ehnstrom and Ellie Michaletz led the way with 10 points each, while
Maggi Fellerman and Brooke Miller each added 9 points. Brooke Miller played
well defensively with 5 steals and 8 rebounds. Sam Forster added 3 assists on
offense, while Steph Blazek finished with a perfect 4 for 4 at the FT line. The
girls now have a huge conference match up with the Rush City Tigers this
Friday night at home. Game starts at 7:30!

Aitkin vs Pine City game was played at Pine City
The girls basketball team traveled to Pine City on Friday night for a Great River
Conference matchup. The girls battled through adversity but came up short in a
nail-biter, losing 52-51. Brooke Miller led the girls on the road with 14 points,
while sophomore Maggi Fellerman also reached double digits with 10 points.
Ellie Michaletz scored 9 as Taylor Ehnstrom added 8 points. Maggi Fellerman
and Naomi Lane each grabbed 8 rebounds in the game, while Samantha Forster
and Taylor Crotty again contributed major minutes off of the bench. The girls
are 2-1 on the season and now enjoy a week at home, beginning with the Foley
Falcons tomorrow night. Game starts at 7:30

Aitkin vs Moose Lake game was played at Moose Lake
The girls basketball team traveled last night to Moose Lake to take on the
Rebels in a non-conference match up. The girls improved to 2-0 on the season
with a 63-44 victory. Leading the way with a career high 25 points was Senior
Brooke Miller. Junior Ellie Michaletz played strong inside with 11 points, while
Sophomore Maggi Fellerman added 9 points. The Gobblers played great
defense, building a 37-19 halftime lead. Sam Forster, Steph Blazek and Taylor
Ehnstrom applied great defensive pressure, leading to 25 Rebel turnovers.
Taylor Crotty and Naomi Lane again played solid minutes off of the bench.
Tonight they travel to Pine City for a big Great River Conference match up!
December 1 2015 – Season Opener
Aitkin vs Onamia game was played at Aitkin High School
The girls basketball team opened up the regular season last night at home
against the Onamia Panthers. The ladies collected a resounding victory by a
final score of 72-37. Brooke Miller led a host of Gobblers with 19 points on the
night. Sophomore Maggi Fellerman scored 15, while junior Naomi Lane came
off of the bench with a solid 12 point effort. Ellie Michaletz added 8, while Taylor
Crotty scored 6 points. Ellie Michaletz and Brooke Miller led the way on the
glass with 8 rebounds apiece, while Taylor Ehnstrom, Brooke Miller and
Stephanie Blazek tallied 4 assists each. The girls are 1-0 and travel to Moose
Lake tomorrow night in a non-conference matchup with the Rebels.
