Wiring Your Home or Business with RTC
All cables or network wires should be run to the wiring closet
closet, which is
typ
typically an area in the electrical room of a home or business where all the
wir
wiring converges (this is referred to as a “home run” configuration.) The
ca
cables and network wires should include a minimum rated RG 6 coax and
mi
minimum rated Category 5E data cabling.
Am
minimum of one (1) Cat 5E cable and one (1) RG6 coax appear at each
loc
location you may intend to place your TV or computer. These two cables
sho
should be home run to the wiring closet. They should be terminated with an
Fc
connector and data jack at that location and likewise in the wiring closet.
Ph
Phone
connections should be considered throughout the building and a
Ca
Cat 5E wire should also be run to support this application. It is suggested
tha
that a coax wire also be pulled to these jack outlets if TVs could be located
in the same area. Again, home run these wires - do not daisy chain outlets.
Here are a few other things to consider:
He
• Appliances, such as refrigerators, are becoming networkable.
• Printers, fax machines, phones and other networkable devices
may require data cabling. Install a separate wire for each intended
device in the “home run” configuration, as consistent with the rest
of the home network. A minimum of four (4) Cat 5E wires to a
home office is recommended.
• RTC offers IP based surveillance cameras and those require a
Cat 5E network cable installed between the camera location
and the wiring closet.
• Multiple Dwelling Units require additional details. Please call RTC.
Ple
Please
call RTC with any questions you or your electrician may have
be
before the wiring of your home or business is complete. We will discuss
yo
your applications and any issues you may have before your walls are
en
enclosed, which makes some wired installations nearly impossible.
