TIME LINE
To design an animated movie, the Timeline plays an important role. It controls a
document’s content over time. It is like compiling all details on the movie reel,
sequencing the scene to be played. The timeline made up of Frames and Layers.
Frames

Layers:
Layers are like sheets of transparent paper arranged in a stack. Each layer is a separate
thing, but when you have a stack of layers, each with drawing on them, they can create an
entire scene. For example: You may have a background as one layer and the animation
object on another layer. You can work on one layer without affecting the other layers.
Symbols:
A symbol is an object created in Flash. Various copies of it can be made and it can be
reused. There are basically three types of symbols:

Graphics

box is displayed.

You can modify the following instance properties for an individual instance without
affecting other instances or the original symbol.
Editing Symbols and Creating Instances:
After creating a symbol, you can use instances of it repeatedly by selecting the symbol,
pressing ALT key and dragging mouse to new location to make the instance.
Library Palette:
All Symbols used in a flash movie are stored in the Library from where you can drag- and –
drop new instances of the symbols into your movie.
ANIMATING AND TESTING A MOVIE:
Animation refers to drawing made and complied in a manner to show movement. A series
of drawings/images are linked together through a loop. This creates the illusion of
movement.
For example here the rocket is shown in different places at each frame, now when this
movie is played in continuation, it will create the illusion of movement of the rocket.
Animation in Flash can be done in the following ways:
Motion Tween Animation:
Motion tween can be referred to an object that travels from one point to another and
involved no change of shape over time. Sometimes motion tween can also mean changing

shape over time. This can also mean a stationary object changing shape over time. You
can also tween the location, size, and color of shapes. Example can be a circle changing
into a square.
Steps to create a Shape Tween animation:
1. Draw any shape, for example, a circle and convert it to a symbol.
2. Click the frame till which the animation is to progress and insert a key frame. Now
another shape.

Frame by Frame Animation:
Frame by frame animation means creation on an object for each frame, so as to
produce animation sequence. This type of animation is used in real movies. Each frame
contains a different content and animation is achieved by running the play head
through the frames. This is most commonly used by cartoonists.
