Ultimate Frisbee Rules

Ultimate Frisbee Rules - 2016
1. The Field:
 A rectangular shape with end zones at each end. A regulation field is 70 yards by 40 yards, with end
zones 25 yards deep. The perimeter lines are out of bounds.
2. Initiate Play:
 To start the game, and after each point, both teams lining up on the front of their respective end zone
line. The defense throws ("pulls") the Frisbee to the offense. A regulation game has seven players per
team.
3. Scoring:

Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's end zone, a goal is scored and the team is
awarded one point. The receiver must have two feet in the end zone when the catch is made.

After a goal is scored, the teams switch their direction of attack (scoring team stays, non-scoring
team walks) and the team that scored “pulls” to the opposing team.

If the Frisbee hits the ground before it is touched, the receiving team gains possession of the Frisbee
where it landed on the ground.

If the Frisbee goes out of bounds on the pull, the Frisbee is thrown back into play nearest to where it
crossed the out-of-bounds line.
4. Movement of the Frisbee:
 The Frisbee may be advanced in any direction.
 Players may not run with the Frisbee.
 The person with the Frisbee ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the Frisbee. The defender guarding
the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count.
 The Frisbee must be thrown; it cannot be handed to another player.
 After catching a pass, the receiver may take only the fewest number of steps required to come to a
stop and establish a pivot foot.
 If offensive and defensive players catch the disc simultaneously, the offense retains possession.
5. Change of Possession:
 When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately
takes possession of the Frisbee and becomes the offense.
6. Non-contact:
 No physical contact is allowed between players.

Only one player may guard the thrower at any one time; that player is the “marker.”

There must be at least one disc's diameter between the bodies of the thrower and the marker at all
times.

The marker cannot position his/her arms in such a manner as to restrict the thrower from pivoting.
7. Fouls:
 When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the
play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the
foul call, the play is redone.
8. Self-Officiating:
 Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.
9. Spirit of the Game:
 Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the
expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.
