The Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) is a non-profit member-based provincial sports organization where
dedicated volunteers and professional staff provide leadership in the growth and development of indoor and
beach volleyball for all Ontarians.
It is our vision to make volleyball one of the preferred sports of participation; to showcase the sport for Ontarians
and to be recognized as a leading sport organization in Canada. As a leader of volleyball in Canada, the OVA is
working with its partners to build programming and organizational capacity.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The OVA will be hiring 18U and 16U Team Ontario Head Coaches for both males and females. Each Team Ontario
Head Coach holds a key leadership position within the Ontario Volleyball Association’s High Performance
program. The successful candidates will be responsible for identifying and developing high performance athletes
in preparation for Volleyball Canada’s annual National Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) training camp and
Championship event.
Team Ontario Training Program Description:
 HPC Open Tryout – Open try-out dates and locations to be determined (Sometime in May 2015)
*Coach will only have to attend the open tryouts for the age group they are coaching*

High Performance Centre (HPC) –The HPC will be held at from June 27 – July 1, 2015 for both the 18U
and 16U athletes. Athletes will be identified during OVA tournaments, through the open tryouts, and direct
invite process. Each HPC will include training sessions, sport science presentations and various other
classroom sessions.
*Sites to be determined but potential locations include Nipissing University (North Bay) and Brock
University (St. Catharines)*

Team Ontario Training Camp – The teams 18U (1997 or younger) and 16U (1999 or younger) will be
identified mainly through the HPC. The teams will train from July 4 - 11 before attending the National
Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) from July 14-19, 2015 in Edmonton, Alberta (boys) and Richmond, British
Columbia (girls).
NEW for 2015
Volleyball Canada is focused on identifying more athletes at a younger age, who may exhibit National
Team Potential in the future. In order to evaluate and develop more athletes at a younger age, they have
expanded the National Team Challenge Cup (NTCC) to include 16U and 18U divisions. The female NTCC will take
place in Richmond, BC and the male NTCC will take place in Edmonton, AB. Each event will run from July 14-19,
2015 (Team Ontario Travel date is July 13, 2015).
From the NTCC, athletes will have the opportunity to be selected to a Youth or Junior National Team program
where they will continue to train and compete for Canada at a determined competition. All athletes will be
released from Team Canada by July 26, 2015.
Team Ontario Head Coach Roles and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Team Ontario Head Coach will include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
 Lead one (1) team as the Head Coach throughout the Team Ontario program
 Identification of athletes for Team Ontario through the High Performance Centre (HPC) Open Tryout and
HPC
 Develop and implement an effective training program at the HPC, Team Ontario training camp
 Abide by the Team Ontario Selection policy
 Assist in athlete selection at the HPC Open Tryout
 Perform administrative duties as needed
 Complete debriefs with coaches, athletes and OVA following the program
 Submitting Athlete, Team and Program Evaluations
 Complete a written athlete evaluation using the OVA grading template
Accountability:
Team Ontario Head Coaches have a direct reporting line to the OVA High Performance Manager.
Necessary Requirements:
 Registered member in good standing with the Ontario Volleyball Association
 Familiarity with the Long-term Athlete Development model for Volleyball in Canada.
 Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening & Police Screening Check
Desired Requirements:
 NCCP Level 2 or higher
 Experience developing short and long-term athlete/team training plans (YTP/STP)
 All Coaches must possess a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and a willingness to travel within and
out of the province.
Head Coach Selection Criteria:
 Teaching ability and training methods
 Ability to motivate or encourage
 Strategic knowledge of volleyball
 Skill competence
 Personality and ability to work with others
 Athlete centered
 Experience working in the 18U or 16U age category
 NCCP Certification
 Experience in OVA high performance programs
 Gender balance
 Ability to meet the time requirements
 Experience in mentorship
To ensure that the Team Ontario Program is held to the highest standard and to safeguard against conflicts of
interest, Team Ontario Head Coaches will not be allowed to coach their child. Coaches with children in the
program may be asked to coach another team or Assistant Coach the team their child competes on.
Honourarium: $2,000
