Governor Election
We are delighted to announce that Annika Musgrave has been re-elected as Parent Governor. Annika’s skills
and knowledge as our previous Safeguarding Governor would have been irreplaceable. We also want to thank
Sarah Corby who is stepping down after having been a parent governor for the last 4 years. Louise Foster (Freddie
in Year 2) has had to sadly decline the role due to work commitments. We will hold another election after half
term. In the meantime if any parents would like to find out more, please see Miss Fahy or Jo Chair of Governors.
Welcome Abbey MSA
We are delighted to welcome Abbey Skells to our Midday Supervisor Team.

Pupil Achievements – Colin and Mpaji
We have heard about some really lovely achievements over the last week Recently Mpaji, who plays for Lakeford Rangers Football team, played in the cup final and his team won. He
even got a gold medal! Then last Saturday he appeared at the Theatre Royal – breakdancing on stage! He did
this along with professional dance troupes from all over the world.
Colin also had some amazing news ..he passed his Piano Grade 1 exam with distinction! Colin has agreed to
play for the school whilst the children lead into assembly on a Monday and Friday. We have all been incredibly
impressed.
Most Popular Primary School in Norwich
The EDP is planning to write an article about admissions to Norfolk primary schools. They have collected
the number of places in each school's reception class, the number of those places allocated and the number
of children on waiting lists. This information has been put into a table and can be seen to show popularity.
We are proud to announce that Magdalen Gates ranks 4th out of 312 Norfolk primaries, and is the
most popular primary school in Norwich.
Car Park Gates
Please be aware that we are working with NPS to fix the car park gates. In the meantime, we have
undertaken a number of Safeguarding actions to ensure the site is secure.
Football Consultation- Feedback!
Thank you to all the parents who took the time out to fill in the football consultation form that was attached
to a previous newsletter. We had a really positive response to this consultation and have decided we will
continue to allow football to be played after school till 4pm. I would strongly urge that ALL parents
adequately supervise their children the entire time please. If any parent would like to see a copy of all the
many replies we received, please come and pick up one from the school office. Thank you.
Traffic Warden Feedback
We had a visit from the Head Traffic Warden to see Mandy our amazing lollipop lady. The feedback Mandy
received was that “she runs a tight ship” – I think we would all agree with that . Our main action point was
to remind parents that parking on yellow lines is not permitted – please also inform grandparents, taxi drivers
and extended friends and families of this – they do undertake spot checks.
Whole School Story
As you know, Magdalen Gates Primary School is a storytelling school, and each term the children learn a
new story off by heart.
Next term, for the first time ever, we will be learning a whole school story, which every pupil, teacher, staff
member and Governor will learn. The story is called 'The Freedom Bird', and the pupils will learn this story,
through lots of exciting writing, art and drama activities. At the end of term, we will be hosting a special
assembly for all family members to come and hear our wonderful story.
Well done Year 6
Well done to Year 6 who completed their KS2 tests last week. Thank you to parents for all their support and
to Miss Bramble, Miss Rix, Mrs Lynn, Mrs Coulthart and Mrs Anderton for all the support they offered the
children throughout the week.
Menus form Jill
The children seem to be loving the new menu from Edwards & Blake and we have now started issuing a
wrist band system to ensure children have the correct dinners – this also helps Jill in the office sort out any
late payments – On this subject PLEASE can all the menu forms be sent back to the office by the
Wednesday that you receive the Menu form. We shall be sending a text out to parents who are bringing the
forms back late as this is causing issues with the kitchen.
Minibus Driving
A massive thank you to Norah and Tom’s dad John who has offered to drive the minibus for swimming on a
Friday am. Is any parent able to help us on a Monday from 1-3pm? Please see Miss Fahy if you can.
Sainsburys Vouchers
IF you have any of the Sainsbury’s vouchers lurking in your car/wallet/under the sofa – please hand them
into the school office as soon as possible as our Yr6 Ambassadors are eager to count them up and exchange
them for some much needed new balls and playground equipment. Please ask members of your extended
family too – Grandparents, aunts and uncles. The more the merrier!
Lastly - Uninvited Guests! – Nits.
Unfortunately, with the weather getting warmer again, some classes
have had an outbreak of nits. Please could all parents check their
Child(ren)’s hair and treat as necessary. Don’t forget the school office
has an electronic nit comb which parents are welcome to use. Sorry,
but we do ask that the school comb stays in school at all times. You are
more than welcome to take your child into a quiet area in the school or
the First Aid room if you require privacy whilst de-nitting.
