Course 3 – Playcentre sessions Outline of Course 3 Module 3.106 Aim This course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to run quality sessions in a parent co-operative setting. It contains four modules comprising 20 credits at level 4. Delivery methods • • • • • • • Discussions in workshops and short courses. Carrying out introductory leadership tasks. Exploration of the link between the theory and practice. Directed practical experiences on sessions. Visit to another Playcentre and observation of the session. Some reading for independent study. Practical experience of holding office in centres. Assessment modes • • • • Increased written component. Developing self appraisal and reflective skills. Implementing planning processes for children. Reporting on practical experience requirements. Practical experience requirements Participate as a session member for a further ten sessions at a Playcentre. Minimum time for completion Two terms. Effective Playcentre Sessions (Level 4 Credit: 9) Aim To further develop knowledge and skills required for the provision of good quality play sessions in a parent cooperative setting Learning outcomes 1. Describe how experiences, activities and events, support the learning and development of individual young children. 2. Discuss own role in initiating, sustaining and extending young children’s play. 3. Practice simple strategies for the guidance of young children’s behaviour. 4. Reflect on personal practice of positive guidance strategies with young children. 5. Use assessment and planning processes appropriate to your centre to support and document children’s learning. 6. Reflect on the effectiveness of the planning process. Describe learning and capabilities of an infant, toddler and young child. 2. Identify how your playcentre programme can provide for the learning and development of each child observed. 3. Describe strategies to support families through transitions. Discussion sessions Team Work in Playcentre (Level 4 Credit: 4) Aim To extend understanding of team work and leadership in Playcentre. 4 x Child development sessions (8 hours) Learning outcomes Assessment tasks 1. Discuss the skills and processes that contribute to the smooth running of the Playcentre parent cooperative. 2. Contribute to the skills and group processes which assist the smooth running of the Playcentre parent co-operative. 3. Practice simple strategies to promote the health and safety of children in a Playcentre setting. 3.2 Assessment task 1 3.2 Assessment task 2 Module 3.306 Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Level 4 Credit: 2) 2 x Co-operative team work (4 hours) Child protection (2 hours) Aim To extend knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for Playcentre practice. Learning outcomes 1. Outline the history of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. 2. Compare the two versions of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. 3. Discuss how Te Tiriti o Waitangi relates to Playcentre sessions.
