Year 5/Year 6 Football
On Wednesday evening our Year 5/Year 6 football team played in a school games football
tournament. They played against three teams in the first round, winning two games and drawing
one game, which meant they were through to the semi-final. In the semi-final they played
against Phillimore A team and won 6-0, getting through to the final. We were successful and
once again, winning the final match 1-0 against St Wilfred’s, making us the champions of the
tournament. Well done to all our star footballers!
House Party Day
The house team badges have arrived in school and we are planning a special house teams’ launch
-on Friday 10th June. Children will be presented with their team badges and split into their
different teams to spend time with and get to know their house team members. The children will
be joining in with a number of different events throughout the day to get our new house teams
up and running and start to gain their first house points. This is a new venture for our school and
both staff and the children are looking forward to incorporating our house teams into our schools
daily routine.
Twycross Zoo
On Monday the Year 6 children had a welcome break from their tests and went on a trip to
Twycross Zoo. The sun shone brightly and the children had a great time exploring, seeing the
different animals and having lunch relaxing in the sunshine.
Building Update
Staff representatives from Wildgoose collected all the entries for our building competition, to
design a building safety poster. There was a huge selection of colourful eye-catching designs. The
judges were very impressed with the outstanding artwork of the posters and with how well the
children had understood the safety issues of a building site. They would like to congratulate all
the children on how well they have done. After careful consideration the overall winners were:Summer from Year 3,
Billy and Evie from Year 4,
Cameron and Katie from Year 5
And Teah and Kassie from Year 6.
These children received their prizes from Paul Metcalfe-Smith, the Health and Safety Manger from
Wildgoose, in our Sparkle and Shine assembly.
We would appreciate it if you could regularly remind your children about building safety. We
have had a few incidents in school where some of the children are not behaving sensibly around
the perimeter of the fencing and unfortunately, the building contractors felt it was necessary to
have a reminder assembly, which took place on Wednesday.
This week the bottom playground has been totally dug out ready for the foundations to be started
on the new building, which will mean a lot more activity and more builders on site. This is why
we have had the arrival of more cabins on the car park area, to house all the building staff. We
are all looking forward to seeing the foundations start and our new school building finally taking
shape.
Summer Fair Rainbow Raffle
As you will be aware the PTA will be holding our Summer Fair on Saturday 18th June. The ‘rainbow
raffle’ is always a very popular part of the fair, especially the different coloured hampers that we
ask each year group to produce. The year group colours for this Summer Fair are:Nursery – pink
Reception – dark blue
Year 1 – green
Year 2 – light blue
Year 3 – yellow
Year 4 – purple
Year 5 – red
Year 6 – orange
We would appreciate it if children could bring in items for their year group hamper, in the
relevant colour and hand them to their class teacher.
The PTA would also appreciate donations of unwanted gifts, toiletries, books, games, DVDs, etc
for their other stalls. These can be handed in at either school office.
Stream Clean
The Friends of Hollinsend Park group are planning a stream clean on Sunday 22nd May, from 10.00
am until noon. The group works closely with the school and we have a good community link with
them helping to keep the park tidy which now includes sponsorship of the school flowerbed.
In the past on our Community Days the children have enjoyed taking part in the stream clean,
getting wet and muddy. If you have any spare time on Sunday morning and would be willing to
help, please meet close to the park gates at the side of the infant school at 10.00 am. All help
would be greatly appreciated.
Menu Change
Next Thursday, the last day of term, the kitchen will be changing the menu. As Friday is an inset
day the children would miss out on fish & chip Friday and cheese flan, which are always a very
popular choice. This will mean the dinner menu for Thursday 26th May will be:Red choice – fish fingers and chips
Green choice – cheese flan and chips
The yellow and blue choices will remain the same and pudding will still be lemon drizzle cake.
Yummy!
