|NOTES|
Cost
No application fee is required. All international volunteers are required to pay for
food and accommodation at the weekly rate of €80 and (400€) as project
contribution regardless of the length of your stay. The project contribution is
waved for participants from Ghana and neighboring West African countries. The
workshop team is already running fundraising campaigns and searching for
donations so that the participation fee is ultimately reduced. Therefore, the
exact cost is not yet clarified; however, the volunteers are required to submit 100
euros, after the acceptance of their application.
Liability
By signing this document, you confirm your ability to meet the monetary
requirement for participation and you ensure your liability to the workshop
leaders. Our project site is in rural locations, where the convenience of
development has not reached yet. The workshop leaders and community
coordinator will assist in every way possible should any incident occur, however,
will be held responsible or liable. Please contact us for any questions or concerns.
Course Credit
Nka Foundation will support students who have a specific research topic they
wish to develop in order to earn college credit. However, the topic must be
preapproved by Nka before the start of the research or service course. The
specific criteria necessary to earn credit will also need to be coordinated
between Nka and the teacher involved. If this is the case, please provide
necessary information and speak with the school contact person who will
coordinate your study course abroad.
Internship
Nka can provide you with a certificate of internship. The skill that you will gain is
hands-on experience in earth-handmade-construction methods by using local
and recycled materials. Interns, contrary with other volunteers will work more
systematically on the project, undertaking design work and other tasks.
Moreover, they are expected to participate at least for 5 weeks.
Schedule
We are flexible. Our project is open all year round- and during the Summer.
Volunteers and site coordinators will work together to arrange a flexible work
schedule. However, interns are expected to work at least 25 hours per week
during a 5 to 12 week internship.
Travel Information
All international flights arrive at Accra’s Kotoka International airport. If you will be
arriving in the evening hours at Accra’s Kotoka a hotel room to pass the night will
be in order ($10-$15) and you will continue your journey at Abetenim the
following day. You can reach Kumasi by bus (or by an internal flight but it is more
expensive) and someone will be there to pick you up and bring you to the
Abetenim village.
