SOME OTHER SUCCESSES • All surveys show that increased PE & Sport raises standards. • Sports Colleges have raised Image area standards faster and to a higher level than any other specialism. • Woodside High has increased PE time at KS4 Dramatic increase in GCSE results. • Lordship Lane. Sporty kids often out for sport had better KS2 SATs averages than the school. • Ali Jawad 9th in Beijing Junior World Champion From PESSCL to PESSYP A new national strategy, 2008 – 2011 Physical Education and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP) “The Five Hour Sport Offer”.. Key Target of PESSYP • At least 2 hours per week of high quality PE and sport in curriculum time for all 5-16 year olds. Image area • All aged 5-19 will be offered opportunities to participate in a further 3 hours per week of sporting activities provided through schools, FE colleges, clubs and community providers. • 1 of these hours to be in the school setting • 2 + 1 + 2 = 5 !!
