DEADLINE = November 5, 2012 Award Descriptions: Name of Award Nature and Intent of Award Criteria The contribution must be made in the capacity of an athlete from October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012. Stan Stronge Memorial Award The Stan Stronge Memorial Award for an outstanding athlete is awarded to the athlete whose qualities of fair play and dedication to excellence exemplify the spirit of Stan Stronge, who dedicated a lifetime encouraging and mentoring young athletes to succeed in wheelchair sport. The Dr. Robert W. Jackson Award for outstanding volunteer service is awarded to an individual whose years of dedication and contributions to the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association exemplifies the passion and spirit of Robert W. Jackson, who committed a lifetime to promoting and developing wheelchair sports. The contribution must be made in the capacity of an administrator, delegate, coach, or sport builder from October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012. This award, which recognizes outstanding contribution to the development of wheelchair sport in Canada, is awarded to an individual or organization, which has been inspirational and instrumental to the growth and development of wheelchair sport, illustrating the impact and inspiration of the Man in Motion. The contribution must be made in the capacity of an administrator, athlete, coach, delegate, sponsor or sport builder. Please attach a brief summary of the nominee's achievements. Will have made a significant contribution to the development of wheelchair sport in Canada, at the provincial, territorial, national, or international level. No more than two (2) pages please. This award is presented to individuals who are actively involved in wheelchair sports and who have made significant contributions to wheelchair sports over the past year. The nominee must be a volunteer and a member in good standing with their CWSA affiliated province or territory. Dr. Robert W. CWSA Service Recognition Awards A CWSA Service Recognition Award is given to those individuals within the CWSA who have contributed their time and energy to the organization. The athlete will have made a significant contribution to the development of wheelchair sport in Canada, at the provincial, territorial, national, or international level. The individual will have made a significant contribution to the development of wheelchair sport in Canada, at the provincial, territorial, national, or international level. Deadline for nominations: November 5, 2012 The Stéphan Dubuc Memorial Award for Excellence in Coaching is awarded to the individual whose excellence in coaching and athlete development over the past season has been evidenced by superior results at the national and/or international level. Stéphan Dubuc Memorial Award This award is intended for coaches involved in wheelchair sports and is presented in honour of Stéphan Dubuc, whose excellence and dedication to his athletes in the sport of wheelchair rugby will be long remembered and respected. The contribution must be made in the capacity of a coach at the national and/or international level, during the period of from Oct. 1, 2011 – Sep. 30, 2012. The individual will have made a significant contribution to the development of wheelchair athletes in Canada, at the national and/or international level. The individual must be a member in good standing of their national and/or provincial/territorial sport organization. Awarded to a female athlete who has exemplified outstanding athletic excellence and achievements. The nominee must be a wheelchair athlete with a disability and a member in good standing with their CWSA affiliated province or territory. Female Athlete of the Year Awarded to a male athlete who has exemplified outstanding athletic excellence and achievements. Male Athlete of the Year The contribution must be made in the capacity of an athlete, during the period of October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012. The nominee must have demonstrated excellence in wheelchair sport by exemplifying good sportsmanship, fair play, superior performance in major competition and a commitment to training at the provincial, national or int’l level. It is awarded to honour the memory of athlete and sports administator Doug Grant, who worked tirelessly in the advancement and professionalism of wheelchair sports. The nominee must be a team of wheelchair athletes with a disability and all members of the team must be considered members in good standing with their CWSA affiliated provincial and/or national sport organization.
