Sports Ideas
Blanket Volleyball
Use a volleyball net if you prefer, but it is not necessary.
Set up teams with four players on each team - one to hold each corner of
a blanket.
Have one team serve the volleyball by placing it in the middle of the
blanket. The team should lower the blanket and then raise it quickly, to
allow the ball to become airborne.
The opposing team must catch the volleyball in their blanket and toss it
back again.

Frisbee
The perfect game for golf lovers is a round of Frisbee golf.
You need a couple of Frisbees and something to throw at (pick something
like a tree or a park bench as the “hole”).
Each player begins by "tee-ing off" - throwing the Frisbee with the goal of
landing it on the first “hole”.
After each player has thrown once, continue to throw the Frisbee until it
lands on the “hole”.
The number of throws is the score for that "hole".
Mark off each hole as you play and see who can hit in it the fewest
number of throws.

Relay races
Make a team game by awarding points to the winning team of each relay
race.
Try some of these variations to the standard sprint relays:
- Backward relay - competitors must complete the course by running
backwards
- Three legged relay - two members of the team tied together at
their ankles by a stocking or similar soft material
- Skipping relays - with or without a skipping rope
- Ball relays - throwing/ catching/ dribbling a basketball or soccer
ball
-
-
Balloon Sweep - teams use a broom to push a balloon
Balloon Pop - competitors have a balloon and must run to a chair
and sit on their balloon to pop it before running back to tag the
next competitor
Egg and Spoon relay - competitors use a teaspoon to carry a hard
boiled egg along the course and must pass the egg to the next
competitor without touching it

Hula Toss
Hang hula hoops from the ceiling (or tree branches) by ropes
Players aim to throw small footballs or flying discs through the hula hoops.
Different throwing distances may be marked off for various ages. Older
participants could have the hula hoop swing back and forth as a moving
target.

Tunnel ball - and other variations
Players form two or more teams and line up to play tunnel ball.
The ball is pushed through players legs (the tunnel) to the last person who
picks it up and runs to the front of the line.
The game continues until the original player makes it to the front of the
team again. The first team to achieve this wins the game.
Variation - under and over - instead of pushing through the “tunnel” the
ball is passed over the head of one player and then under the legs of the
next player, alternating down the line.
Variation - captain ball - the first player in line (the captain) faces the
team and throws the ball to the first player who catches it and throws it
back and then squats down. The ball is then thrown to the second person
in line and so on. The last person in line catches the ball and runs to the
front to become the new captain and so on until all players have been
“captain”.

Water Balloon Head
Divide the group into teams of two players.
You will need enough water balloons for each team to have one.
Mark a start and finish line.
Give team members their balloon and ask them to position it between the
sides of their heads.
Teams will have to run or walk to the finish line while keeping the balloon
between their heads. No one is allowed to use their hands.
The first team to make it to the finish line without having their balloon pop
is the winner.
