Practice Protocol:

All teams will practice from 3:10-5:00pm Monday through Friday. There will
be situations where teams will get out earlier based on performance and for
other activities during the week.

Players are required to dress in appropriate volleyball attire such as shorts,
spandex, socks, tennis shoes, t-shirt, (no tank-tops) and kneepads.

ALL players will help set up and take down the proper equipment during
practice.

ALL jewelry needs to be taken out before practice.

Any player not feeling well after school needs to contact their
parents/guardians, ride the bus home and make sure the coaches get a note
from the office. DO NOT come to practice.

ALL practices are closed to everyone with the exception of the last 15
minutes.

ALL practices are deemed mandatory.

If a player is going to be tardy or absent to school for ANY reason you
MUST contact the middle school office by 8:30am in order to be excused
and participate in practice or a match on that specific day. If you fail to do
so, it will be classified as an unexcused absence.

A player is only allowed 3 unexcused absences for the season. If a player
exceeds this limit, they will be asked to leave the team.
Game Day Protocol/Attendance:

ALL matches are deemed mandatory. Please contact the coach if you are
going to be absent. We will need a written note from your parent regarding
this absence.

If a player is going to be tardy or absent to school for ANY reason you
MUST contact the middle school office by 8:30am in order to be excused
and participate in practice or a match on that specific day. If you fail to do
so, it will be classified as an unexcused absence.

Players are asked to dress nice the day of our matches.

Teams that are traveling will be released from school early that day. Players
are expected to hustle down to the locker room and get dressed out ASAP!
When the bus is scheduled to leave, it will leave with or without you.

Players are responsible for having all volleyball attire with them. Any player
forgetting any part of their uniform will NOT play in that match.

ALL players are required to assist in each teams’ warm up.

ALL players are required to sit together as a team during matches. PHONES
NEED TO BE PUT AWAY and players are expected to support the other
teams playing.

ALL players will clean the bench area and the area that we are sitting in at all
matches.

ALL players are required to stay for ALL matches. Leaving early is not an
option. Please understand that we are a family and we will support every
match that is played.

Leaving early from a game will result in an unexcused absence. Again, a
player is only allowed 3 unexcused absences for the season. If a player
exceeds this limit, they will be asked to leave the team.

ALL players will ride the bus to all matches, NO exceptions. Parents may
check their daughter out at the end of the night to ride home with them.

Players will call their parents from the bus when we are 20 minutes from the
school. Parents, please be at the school to pick your daughter up on time!
Players will follow all Bus Protocol procedures while riding the bus.
Uniforms:
All Players will turn their uniforms in to the coach or managers at the end of every
match. Players will need to bring an appropriate t-shirt to change into.
Eligibility Policy/Down List:

Players who are on the down list in 2 or more classes for the week will NOT
play, travel or sit on the bench in the matches we have that week.

Players who are on the down list in 1 or more classes will be required to
attend tutoring after school. After tutoring is done for the day, players will
bring a note to practice that is signed by the tutoring teacher. They can then
participate in the rest of practice. This process will continue until they are off
of the down list.

If a player is on the down list more than 3 times, they will be asked to leave
the team.
Playing Time:
Our goal is to ensure each player has a positive experience. At this level all players
will get playing time, however, it is not guaranteed that it will be equal playing time.
Players will earn their playing time during practices based on their overall skill,
attitude and work ethic.
Team Selection:
We will place your daughter on the team where she will receive the most playing
time. Contact time on the court is how a player will get better. With that said, team
selections are NOT permanent. At the discretion of the coaching staff, players may
be able to move up to the A team or move down to the B team. A player may be able
to move teams up to the tournament, at which point, a choice must be made to
determine a final team.
Communication/Chain of Command:
The coaching staff will email parents every week or every other week with updates,
and general information regarding the season or upcoming events.
We encourage all players to have open communication with the coaches. If a player
has a question or an issue arises, the following protocol is expected:

First, the player addresses the concerns with their specific coach.
o Parents, please encourage and allow the opportunity for your
daughter to develop this communication/life skill.

If the issue is not resolved, then we can schedule a coach, player, and parent
meeting. (Mr. Melendrez may attend as well.)

PARENTS –
o PLEASE DO NOT address a coach at or after a practice, or on game
day. We will not meet with you at that point.
o PLEASE DO schedule an appointment AFTER your daughter has tried
speaking with her coach first.
Snacks:
Game day snacks are something that was started a couple of years ago. We feel the
girls need a healthy snack before their matches. We asked for donations last year for
each grade. All snacks are kept at the school and our managers prepare “snack bags”
for all of the players on Game day. You may bring your donation of snacks to
practice or to the middle school office. Examples of snacks include fruit, granola
bars, beef jerky, Gatorade, etc.
Team Dinners/Other Team Activities:
The coaching staff is looking for parents who would be willing to organize a fun
team dinner, either by grade level or for 7th and 8th grades combined. If you are
interested, please speak with the coaches after the meeting.
The coaching staff is not involved in any other team-specific activities that are
organized outside of this dinner. Please understand that team dinners and activities
outside of practice are a great way to encourage a sense of family and community
within the teams. These activities are in no way meant to seclude players and their
families, so please feel free to be involved in the organization process.
Colt PRIDE
We expect all of our staff, players, and parents to show colt PRIDE throughout this
season, displaying Positive attitude, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and
Excellence in all that we do. This allows for a more family-like environment for our
volleyball program and encourages everyone to be the best teammate and fan they
can be!
We expect and encourage all players and parents to support all other families and
players in the program and avoid “clicks” while sitting in the stands. We will have a
zero tolerance policy with “bullying” and if we all work hard and show good
sportsmanship to everyone, we hope that we can make a difference.
Consequences for Bullying:
Witnessed by the coach:
1st offense: Meeting with the players involved and the one bullying
will be benched for the next match.
2nd offense: Removal from the team.
Player communication:
1st offense: Meeting with involved players, parents, Dan Melendrez,
and Mr. Taylor.
2nd offense: Removal from the team.
We encourage all players to have a positive attitude, work hard, and play hard.
Players need to be coachable, approachable, and be open to communication.
We expect players to support their teammates both on and off the court, be a
positive role model in the school and community and to respect coaches,
teammates, and opponents. Most importantly, we hope to have a fun season!!!!
Please sign this portion indicating that you have read, understand and
agree to the rules and regulations above and return it to your coach as
soon as possible.
