NO ACA REPEAL WITHOUT A REPLACEMENT PLAN IN PLACE Health care is at risk here in Kentucky. Nearly 500,000 Kentuckians and 30 million individuals around the country are at risk of losing access to affordable health care should opponents of the Affordable Care Act move forward with their plan to repeal the health care law. What would a repeal plan mean for Kentuckians? MARKETPLACE COVERAGE • 74,640 Kentuckians enrolled in marketplace coverage stand to lose their health insurance. • A recent Urban Institute report finds that ACA repeal would cause the state’s historically low uninsured rate to skyrocket by 200% by 2019. LIFETIME CAPS AND PREEXISTING CONDITIONS • • 1,894,874 Kentuckians with preexisting conditions – such as diabetes, cancer or asthma – could be denied affordable coverage and placed at the mercy of insurance companies once again. 1,414,000 individuals, including 362,000 children, are no longer subject to lifetime caps due to the ACA, leading to a lifetime of care for those most vulnerable. PREVENTIVE SERVICES • • Women are no longer charged up to 57% more than men for identical coverage. 1,884,719 Kentuckians on private coverage and 89,343 Kentucky seniors on Medicare benefit from preventive care, like blood pressure screenings, immunizations and cancer screenings. CRIPPLE THE KENTUCKY ECONOMY • Over 10 years, Kentucky would lose $50 BILLION in federal funding for Medicaid, CHIP and financial assistance for marketplace coverage through a repeal. Today, Kentucky’s uninsured rate is at a historic low of 6%. Millions of families are stronger without having to worry that one accident or illness will lead to bankruptcy, or that if they change jobs, they’ll lose health insurance.
