Person Specification - Brightwell Primary School

ASSISTANT HEADTEACHER
Teaching and Learning
This person need not be particularly experienced but must
have energy, a good understanding of teaching and
learning and a record of delivering high standards. We are
not only interested in people with a background in similar
schools, in fact applications from people who have worked
in urban settings, meeting high standards would be very
welcome. We want the sort of person who quickly
becomes a presence, loves every minute they are around
children and understand the value of working hard on
preparation and marking.
The joy of the job will be added to by having the capacity
to make a terrific difference very quickly. The successful
applicant may fall in love with the school and want to stay
but we are happy to support people who seek headship
within a couple of years or so if they help make the
difference we are seeking at Brightwell. Part of their own
CPD may be preparation for headship as part of
Wallingford’s Trust, elsewhere or maybe even at
Brightwell itself. If you are moving here from another part
of the country we understand that there is likely to be a
significant difference in accommodation costs, so a
relocation package is available to attract the right
candidate for whom such a move may prove financially
tricky.
The post is set to run in partnership with an established
classroom teacher who is taking a temporary promotion
with a view to moving on school leadership at the end of
next year. She will be a useful person to draw support
from as she understands the school, wants to be part of
its development and is a strong practitioner herself.
