DCCPA PROMOTES THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF COLLEGE
STUDENT EDUCATORS AND HIGHER EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS WITHIN
THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND THE METROPOLITAN AREA.
Welcome from DCCPA President
As you (hopefully) take time to recharge this summer, DCCPA welcomes your participation in planning for the
upcoming year. This spring we completed the transition to becoming an internal chapter of ACPA, and we are in
the process of reviewing our governing documents, goals, and the programs and events that can support you in
your professional development. If you have any suggestions about DCCPA in general or about initiatives and
events that would be beneficial, email us at [email protected]. Whether you have been a member for years
or just joined us, we welcome your input on how we can best serve you. In addition to our in-person events, we
are also expanding ways you can connect with us virtually, so make sure to follow DCCPA on Facebook and Instagram, join our twitter chats, and visit our new website. Matthew, Daniel, and I look forward to working with you
this year!
- Andrea Carpenter (President, DCCPA)
July Event: Welcome to DC Baseball Game!
Whether you’re new to DC or you’ve been here a while, we invite you to join
DCCPA at the Nationals baseball game on Tuesday, July 21, 2015. This is
an especially great opportunity to meet new professionals who recently
moved to the area, so, even if you can’t attend, please share this with your
colleagues! You do not need to be a
registered member of ACPA and
DCCPA to attend this event, so bring your friends too!

When: Tuesday, July 21, 2015 (Meet at 6pm; Game at 7:05pm)

Location: Meet at the bullpen across from the stadium at 6pm (1299 Half Street, SE)

Tickets: Participants are required to buy their own tickets (link) to the game. We’ll hang out in the Right
Field Terrace. Also, please sign-up here so we know you’re coming!
Drive-In Conference Sponsorship Opportunity!
Are you interested in 2-Year and Community Colleges? There is still time to apply to have DCCPA pay
your registration fee for the upcoming Theory to Practice to Outcomes: Connecting Student Development Theory to Community College Practice Drive-In Conference (link) being hosted in Baltimore, Maryland on July 16, 2015. Apply here! All applications are due by 5pm on June 8, 2015, and our recipients
will be announced by June 22, 2015. This opportunity is only available to current DCCPA members.
Am I Still a Member of DCCPA?
Recently, DCCPA voted to become an internal chapter with ACPA. This
means that DCCPA members are entitled to certain member benefits.
This also means that all official DCCPA members must be members of
ACPA. Individual ACPA membership rates have been reduced for new
members, and being a member of DCCPA requires no additional costs. To become a member of ACPA
and DCCPA, click here! Throughout the coming semester, the DCCPA Executive Board will continue to
monitor and track our membership.
Become a DCCPA Liaison!
Are you looking for ways to become more involved in DCCPA? Would you like to help DCCPA boost its
representation across all institutions and organizations of higher education in the DC-Metro area? Then
you should consider applying to become a DCCPA Liaison! This is a new position, and liaisons will help
to ensure that our events and initiatives are promoted far and wide. If you’re interested in being a
DCCPA Liaison, please email President Elect Matthew Le Brasseur ([email protected]).

2015 DCCPA Annual Conference
Theme Suggestions
We need your help as we begin to prepare for our annual conference! Last
year’s conference was amazing, and the presenters, speakers, and attendees clearly demonstrated why it matters to engage! The DCCPA Executive Board is currently exploring dates and locations for our annual conference, but we need your help developing a theme that applies to who we
are and what we do as professionals in the nation’s capital in 2015-2016. If
you have creative ideas for our upcoming conference, click here to submit
them before 5pm on Friday, June 12, 2015. You may submit more than
one theme suggestion. For every suggestion that you submit, you will be
entered into a random drawing to win a $10 Starbucks Gift Card. The gift
card can only be awarded to a current member of DCCPA.
DCCPA Website and Social Media

to the right to connect with all of our social media sites!
Additionally, as part of DCCPA’s commitment to continued development and
local networking, we will be using social media this year to engage local professionals in regular conversations pertaining to higher education (see some
of the topics listed below!). Beginning in July, join DCCPA on the first and
third Wednesday of every month from 12:15-1:15pm as we host Tweet
Chats to discuss a topic that is pertinent to our work.
