Publicising positive activities

Publicising positive activities
The journey ahead
Vision
We want the young people of
Lancashire to :
• Take Opportunities
• Make Positive Choices
• See Positive Futures
• Be Engaged in Communities
The PPA initiative in Lancashire
Should provide increased opportunities for young
people to find information which will help
and support them to engage in:
– Universal services which provide a range of personal
and social educational opportunities
– Prevention and inclusion services and support which
ensure that young people are engaged in local
communities and the provision available
– Opportunities to make a positive contribution
– Positive choices about their futures through access
to quality Information Advice and Guidance
Starting points
• The DFES specification for this work spells out a range of
requirements and or a selection of conditions which it describes as
being needed . This combines a set of business requirements, user
requirements and functional requirements.
• Examples:
• Business requirements
– System (PPA system- not just a website system) should provide young
people and parents with comprehensive, up to date and accurate
information
• User requirements
– System (PPA system- not just a website system) should enable young
people to feedback what they think about services
• Functional requirements
– System (PPA system- not just a website system) should incorporate
existing classifications for activities and services particularly the Local
Government Service list.
The factors…. So far
• Low level of understanding of “the initiative”
• Different definitions of the “system” being
•
•
•
•
discussed and planned
A set of political interests vested in approaches
A range of mapping activities already on going
A varying range of information already being
collected and publicized to harness
A range of approaches to delivering information
and access to services
The tasks
The project steering group’s task is
• to clarify these different requirements so
that work over the next 12 months can be
based on clearly defined requirements for
Lancashire and its Borough/District
partners.
• to build a coalition committed to the
creation of a system which will ensure that
young people and their parents in the area
of Lancashire have access to
comprehensive, accurate and up to date
information about the services and
opportunities available to them.
