Monroe Robotics Teams Compete in Local FIRST LEGO League Scrimmage
Heading into the competition season for FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics programming,
Monroe County had two teams competing in Lewisburg’s FLL Scrimmage at New River
Community College on Saturday October 17.
Monroe County 4-H’s Boa Constructors in their second season as a FLL team walked away with
the top award for robot performance. This is one quarter of the competition but very
important at a scrimmage in that this is scoring arena for success in programming the robot to
complete assigned tasks. The 2016 edition of the Boa Constructors recorded an all-time team
high score of 396 points during the scrimmage last weekend.
The Robotic Pirates, a LEGO Robotics team from Peterstown Middle School, experienced their
first taste of FLL competition at the event placing 5th in the robot performance competition.
They came away with encouragement for their entry into LEGO Robotics programming.
Members of the Monroe County 4-H Boa Constructors team are Bryce Sabol, Sarah McClure,
Ian Jackson, Cade McMunigal, Riley Sparks, Seana Sabol, Owen Jackson, Luke Jackson, Lane
Skinner. The group is led
by 4-H volunteer leaders
Callie McMunigal and
Johna Jackson.

School Robotics team include Evan Haag, Eli Amos, Jakobey Meadows, Cole Basile, Caleb
Broyles, Brooklynn Terry, and not pictured Kasadee Ferguson. The Robotic Pirates are coached

Monroe County 4-H also has a second FLL Team , “the Ohms” and a JrFLL team just beginning to
get their programming under way in this new 4-H year. Good luck to our teams as they
endeavor to succeed at a state qualifier in November at New River Community College and
Jackson’s Mill State 4-H Camp to earn a right to compete at the state competitions in December
in Fairmont for two years in a row. Much appreciation is extended to the Monroe County 4-H
Foundation for financial support and to Monroe Service Center for the use of their facility for 4H Lego Robotics programming space.
