Supervision Responsibilities - Mobridge

Mobridge-Pollock School District
Supervisor Responsibilities:
 If you are supervising a basketball or volleyball game there should be one supervisor on either
end of the home side bleachers. The person on the west end should periodically walk the
hallways and ensure that there are no students causing problems. The person on the east end is
responsible for checking on the commons area and making sure students are not being
disruptive. When inside the gym, your main responsibility is to make sure students are in the
stands and behaving in a respectful manner. You need to be in a position where you can
observe the crowd. Students should not be running around in the commons and coming in and
out of the building.
 If you are supervising a football game at Tiger Stadium there should be one supervisor on either
end of the home side bleachers. The person on the south side is responsible for observing the
student section. This person should also periodically walk around behind the bleachers and
make sure there are no kids playing football in this location. This can be done on the practice
football field only. The supervisor on the north end is responsible for observing the crowd
standing along the fence and in front of the concession area. This person should also walk
around behind the bathrooms and concession stand to make sure no students are in these
areas. This is typically where fighting and bullying takes place.
 If you notice something that needs custodial attention (i.e. popcorn on the gym floor, spilt pop
in the commons area, issues with the bathrooms, etc.) either take care of it yourself or report it
to the administrator on duty.
 Regardless of the activity you are supervising, if there is student discipline that needs attention
please report it to the administrator on duty immediately.
 It is difficult not to get caught up in watching the game; however, your first responsibility is to
observe the students that are in attendance at the specific activity.
 If you signed up for a specific date/event and cannot fulfill your commitment, it is your
responsibility to find a replacement and/or notify Kathy Schick.
The purpose of this is not to include a complete list of specific duties, but rather to give employees a
general idea of their responsibilities and expectations when supervising an athletic home event.
All questions and concerns can be directed to Joe Lenz, Activity Director
