USPS Price Reduction Starting April 10
Historic Decrease will Save Your Business Money
For the first time in almost 100 years, the United States Postal Service®
(USPS®) will reduce mail prices on April 10, 2016. The price change
will result in a savings of approximately 4.3% on average, across
all types of mail and sort levels of “market dominant” mail (e.g.,
letters, large envelopes/flats, and postcards).
The reduction is part of a pre-arranged agreement with Congress.
The USPS increased the price of stamps in 2014 as part of a revenue-raising initiative to offset losses that
resulted from the recession of 2008/2009. The price hike was temporary, limited by a cap of $4.6 billion,
and set to remain in effect until the USPS collected the intended funds. That target is expected to be
reached by April 10.
