All members of the team will sign the Club Waiver before participating. Any new members
added or substituting must sign a waiver before playing.
Games are played with 6 players on the court (min of 2 males & 2 females). Teams may play
with 5 players as long as the gender requirements are met.
All matches are played within a time limit, games to 25, capped at 27 (time permitting).
Matches are 20 minutes in length. Each team will play two teams twice for weekly pool play.
Teams switch sides and serve on second set.
There are no referees, so teams are required to call their own violations, and are expected to
be honest and foster a high level of sportsmanship at all times. If there is a dispute, please reserve the point.
Throws, carries and lifts are not allowed and should be called by players on court.
A player may not block or attack a serve.
The serve is allowed to contact the net. (e.g. a serve contacting the top of the net and goes
over the net, it is still in play).
A player is allowed to volley a serve, and is allowed to volley any ball over the net. When
volleying, you do not have to be square to the path of the ball. A volley set does NOT have to
be perfect.
When receiving a serve or a spike, it is permitted for one player to double touch the ball when
volleying. For example, when volleying a spike, if the ball comes off with spin, it is allowed.
It is NOT permitted to contact the net or go over the centre-line at any point. This is to
prevent injuries. All net and line calls should be made immediately.
Open hand tips and directs are allowed.
Back-row attacks must be from behind the attack-line (3-metre line).
If the attacked ball touches the blocker on the block, it is not counted as the first touch. The
blocker may play the ball off his/her own block. These two contacts are counted as one touch.
Players may play the ball off any part of their body. Please be careful should you decide to
kick the ball. Use of feet is legal but NOT recommended.
There is a ‘5 serve max’ rule. After a player's fifth serve, the team rotates and it is the next
persons serve.
Regular rotation. Substitutions are allowed, as long as players on court meet Rule 2.
There are no time-outs.
There are no uniform requirements.
It is the teams’ responsibility to start the games as soon as the start time is indicated.
If a minimum of 5 players/team are not present within 10 mins of the start time, the match
will be recorded as forfeit. The second game is defaulted 5 mins from its start time.
Only players on the roster are eligible to play. Exception to 1 ‘ringer’ or substitute, only if a
team has 5 players, exception does not apply if a team has 6 roster players.
When a team plays with 5 players, 3 players are considered front court, other 2 back court.
Scores are to be recorded with on-site coordinator after each game.
All of the above rules apply to (Competitive) with the exceptions of:
1. There is no serve limit.
2. When using hands to pass (volleying), ball should have minimal spin. All double touches, lift
and directions must be called immediately.
3. Libero is not permitted.
