NG16 5LU [email protected] 01773 540523 www.nottshockey.org.uk Secretaries Report Starting on a sad note, the County lost David Hartley in October, followed by Don Nettleton in December. There are many more qualified to talk of their involvement with Notts hockey than me, but suffice to say, Don was listed as a Vice President/Life Member of the Men’s and Ladies County Associations before their merger. England Hockey Leagues Beeston’s Men finished as runner’s up to East Grinstead (who only lost one league game all season) but got their revenge with a 2-1 win over them in the EHL Championship playoffs to once again qualify for Europe. Beeston’s Europe campaign saw them progress to the KO8 round where they narrowly (4-3) lost to HGC of Holland. Beeston Ladies had a more difficult time in the Women’s Conference West, but finished 7th, thus avoiding the Promotion play-offs. MRHA Leagues Notts clubs fared well. In the MRHA Men’s League the following Notts clubs all gained promotion; South Notts HC 1st XI Beeston HC 2nd & 4th XIs Mansfield HC 2nd XI North Notts HC 3rd XI Boots HC 3rd XI & 5th XIs West Bridgford HC 6th XI Nottingham HC 5th XI In the MRHAWL Boots finished a very creditable 5th in their first season in the Premier Division and Beeston Ladies 2s finished runners-up and were promoted from Division 1. The NWHL report should follow. Single System Once again the Hockey Development Group, incorporating the Schools and youth for both boys and girls successfully ran the JDCs AND JACs for the single system their report will follow. Competitions The County didn’t send a team to the Men’s County Championships due to not being able to find a Manager for the team. This means we have now been relegated to the ‘C’ Division. And again, no Ladies O40 Masters team went on to the Midlands tournament. The County clubs need to decide whether these are something that they wish to pursue in future. If so, then we will need to find somebody willing to take on and organise the teams. Meetings Secretary Acting Chairperson Treasurer Gareth Parr Lesley Evans Sara Parr Correspondence Address: C/O Mr G Parr (Secretary) 8 Wiltshire Avenue, Jacksdale, Nottingham. NG16 5LU [email protected] 01773 540523 www.nottshockey.org.uk Once again, turnout from clubs at November’s Council meeting was poor. This needs to be addressed. We do not want to apply financial penalties for non-attendees. The Association is for the benefit of the Counties clubs and we want to help you if we can, but we need YOUR input in order to be able to focus our activities, otherwise we will just exist for existing’s sake. Club Communication The Association website is now up and running at www.nottshockey.org.uk, many thanks to Above Parr Ltd. who are sponsoring all the development and running costs, and we also have a presence on Twitter (@NottsHockey) and on Facebook. This is to try and dissipate information as quickly, easily and cost effectively as possible. Please can I ask that clubs endeavour to check the web-site regularly and supply me with an up-to-date email address (one which is checked regularly). Email is by far the easiest and quickest method of communicating, especially now that England Hockey sends out everything electronically. Also the time and cost it would take to print and post received information out to all out clubs would increase the County affiliation fees you pay. The website currently holds a basic Club Directory. This is only an initial draft. Please check your entry and if you would like to see the information held changed or enhanced in any way please let me know. If you have an email address, but would not like it advertised anywhere, the Association can provide an email address in the format [email protected] which can be invisibly forwarded to any personal email account. Also, if your club doesn’t have a website of its own there is the option of having a single page on the Association website set aside for you to put on whatever information you wish. If you would like either of these set up for your club please let me know. Committee Posts You will see from the Officers list for 2011/12 that there are a number of vacant posts and a number of posts held by the same few people. Running the County Association is not an onerous task but the more individuals that are involved the easier and better it is for the County. Please consider taking one of the roles and get involved in hockey at the next level up from your club. And finally, thank you to everyone who has helped run the association over the last year. We muddled through again! Gareth May 2011 Secretary Acting Chairperson Treasurer Gareth Parr Lesley Evans Sara Parr
