Delivery Options:

Definition:
• Out-of-school time hours only
• Subject area examples: fine arts, performing arts, language instruction
• Program experience examples: dance, fashion design, communications,
digital photography, spoken word, world language clubs, theater
performance, set design
• Program structure/length allows for concept mastery and a culminating
event

Category B - OST Academic Support
Delivery Options:
• Direct instruction
• Intensive experience (eg. internship, apprenticeship)
• PD/PD materials/curricula
Definition:
• Out-of-school time hours only
• Deep engagement in academic content
Intervention; enrichment/expansion upon school-day content;
exposure to additional, unique academic content
• Address diverse learner needs
• Connect to CCSS
• Examples: STEM clubs, chess, civic engagement, college readiness, newspaper
• DOES NOT INCLUDE: Unstructured programming (eg. homework club)

Category C: Student Health and Wellness - Health Education
Delivery Options:

• Professional development
Definition:
• Comprehensive health education programming and materials for students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade
that is sequential, developmentally appropriate, medically accurate and culturally sensitive
• Must align to National Health Education Standards and align to Illinois Common Core Standards
• Must focus on health promotion and risk reduction within the context of the world in which students live
• Health education programming may include any or all of the following topics: Alcohol and Other Drugs, Asthma
Management and Care, Personal Health and Wellness, Safety and Injury Prevention, Tobacco, and Violence
Prevention
• The proposed health education programming should mutually reinforce health education and health services
NOTE:
• Comprehensive Health Education programming or materials to include Sexual Health Education, Nutrition
Education or Physical Activity content must apply and be approved through those RFQ subcategories
• May be approved in whole or in part

Category C: Student Health and Wellness - Sexual Health Education

• Sexual health education curricula (taught by CPS staff member)
• Professional development
Definition:
• Scientifically-based, medically accurate and developmentally appropriate educational
programming provided to students in kindergarten through 12th grade
• Must include information on both abstinence and contraception as part of healthy decisionmaking
• Programming must align with topic areas of the National Sexuality Education Standards: Core
Content and Skills K-12
• Programming should have a
proven track record with urban youth of varying cultural and language backgrounds, and
may consist of a single session or a series of sessions for students

• Nutrition education curricula
• Professional development
Definition:
• Educational strategies surrounding nutrition related behaviors conducive to
health and well-being

• Must align with District priorities as communicated by OSHW and relevant
policies

• To promote edible education, school garden programming must support schools in
completing the CPS Eat What You Grow training and certification program which
allows school-based consumption of school garden produce
NOTE: The Board is not seeking proposals for the construction, planting, or
harvesting of school gardens.

Direct movement instruction programs and curriculum provided to students to not take place in
physical education classes or recess time
Proposed direct instruction programming should span across a broad range of physical activity
programs with the goal of increasing student engagement
Proposed programming must be implemented with instructors who are CPR/AED certified.
Examples: fitness classes, yoga, running, biking, in classroom physical activity interventions in
classroom physical activity interventions and other structured physical activity opportunities.

practice social skills, and learn and practice developmentally appropriate games
