Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures <http:// ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the TAG of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair <[email protected]> as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.19 TAG. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at <[email protected]>. Submission Slide 1 Hyunduk Kang et al, ETRI July 2010 doc.: IEEE 802.19-10/0106r0 Abstract • This presentation defines channel set transition diagram/events/matrix based on the proposed channel classification for 802.19.1 logical entities in [1] Submission Slide 2 Hyunduk Kang et al, ETRI July 2010 doc.: IEEE 802.19-10/0106r0 Contents • • • • • Channel Classification Revisit Venn diagram of TV Channels Channel Set Transition Diagram Channel Set Transition Events Channel Set Transition Matrix Submission Slide 3 Hyunduk Kang et al, ETRI July 2010 doc.: IEEE 802.19-10/0106r0 Channel Classification Revisit (1/3) • Disallowed set – A set of channels disallowed for any TVBDs or networks by regulation, or by the request of incumbents E.g., in the U.S. TV channel 3,4, and 37 are disallowed by regulation E.g., in the U.S. a TV channel registered at TVWS database by a licensed wireless microphone is disallowed for any TVBDs or networks – Might be provided by TVWS database and will be updated if necessary • Allowed set – A set of channels allowed for TVBDs or networks – Should be provided by TVWS database and will be updated if necessary – All TVBDs or networks should first obtain a list of the available channels before operating. Submission Slide 4 Hyunduk Kang et al, ETRI July 2010 doc.: IEEE 802.19-10/0106r0 Channel Classification Revisit (2/3) • Available set – A set of free channels available for TVBDs or networks • Restricted set – A set of channels restricted to use with limitations due to regulation – Can be used by TVBDs or networks under limited conditions predefined by regulation E.g., in the U.S. a portable/personal TVBD can use “the first adjacent channel of the incumbent activating channel” with limited transmit power (≤ 40mW EIRP) by FCC regulation E.g., in the U.S. channel 36 and 38 need more stringent emission mask to protect incumbents in channel 37 by FCC regulation • Protected set • Unclassified set – A set of channels occupied by incumbents to be protected – Can NOT be used by any TVBDs or networks – A set of channels has not been classified as one of listed above three sets Submission Slide 5 Hyunduk Kang et al, ETRI July 2010 doc.: IEEE 802.19-10/0106r0 Channel Classification Revisit (3/3) • Operating set – A set of operating channels being used by one TVBD or network – Can be selected from available set or restricted set only if there are no incumbent activities on it – If each TVBD or network has its own operating channel, spectrum etiquette with FDM (frequency division multiplexing) is achievable. • Coexistent set – A set of channels being shared by two or more TVBDs or networks – If two or more TVBDs or networks compete the same channel, spectrum etiquette with FDM is NOT achievable.
