Tara VanDerveer Biography
Quick-Hitting Set Plays DVD Tara VanDerveer
$37.99
Tara VanDerveer, only the third Women's Basketball Coach in the history of Stanford University has certainly "worked out"
in the role she was born to play.
Stanford, which started their illustrious women's basketball program with the 1974-75' season, a span of 30 seasons
through the 2003-04' season, has been fortunate enough to have Vanderveer at the helm for 18 of those seasons.
What VanDerveer has accomplished in those 18 seasons at Stanford most coaches will not accomplish in a lifetime. All
she and her incredibly well coached teams have done is produce a 452-117 record, an off the charts (.794) winning
percentage. They have had six perfect seasons at home, not losing a game at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal's have won
11 Pacific-10 Conference titles, 30 or more games five times and 20 or more games 14 times.

VanDerveer has steered Cardinal basketball fortunes to two NCAA Titles. They have made 15 consecutive NCAA
postseason tournament appearances including five "Final Fours" and seven "Elite Eight" appearances. VanDerveer's
Cardinal teams have an outstanding 37-14 record (.725) winning percentage in "Big Dance" play.
VanDerveer had already made a name for herself before gracing Stanford with her presence. In five seasons at Ohio State
she guided the Buckeye's to national recognition as a women's basketball powerhouse finishing seventh in the national
rankings following the 1984-85' season. During her tenure the Buckeye's had a stellar 110-37 record (.748) winning
percentage and were 55-5 an incredible (.917) winning percentage in the Big Ten.
VanDerveer's Ohio State teams won four Big Ten Championships, had four consecutive 20-win seasons and went to
postseason NCAA Tournaments three times. She was twice named the Big Ten Coach of the Year during her five seasons
at Ohio State.
Success came early to VanDerveer who guided the University of Idaho to a 42-14 record (.750) winning percentage in her
two seasons with the Vandals. She guided the team into the AIAW Tournament (which preceded the NCAA Tournament)
in her second season, before leaving to coach Ohio State.
VanDerveer has enjoyed similar success on the international scene. She coached the USA Olympic Women's Basketball
Team to Olympic Gold in the 1996 summer games in Atlanta. In this teams time together from 1995 and culminating in
the 96' Olympics VanDerveer guided them to a hard to believe 60-0 record. Her USA Basketball teams have compiled an
overall 88-8 record, an unbelievable (.917) winning percentage, won four gold medals and literally toured the world with
stops in South America, England and Russia. She has proven she cancoach and win anywhere.
Certainly, in part, VanDerveer's success has been built on her recruiting talents. VanDerveer has long been considered
one of the countries top notch recruiters. Her recruiting record speaks for itself, she has coached two Naismith Player of
the Year honorees, 10 Kodak First-Team All-Americans, eight Pac-10 Player of the Year winners, 34 First-Team All Pac10 selections and 30 players chosen to play for USA Basketball Teams.
Over her 25 years of coaching women's college basketball VanDerveer has compiled an outstanding 602-168 record (.781)
winning percentage. Put another way in 770 collegiate basketball games her teams have won over 600 of them, an
incredible stat in any sport. Quality, longevity and the fortitude to do things the "right way" are the hallmarks of this
