Strategies for Improving Access
Strategies for Improving Access
As a result of the consultation process, the following overarching strategies
will guide tasks reflected in the implementation plans that the Department will
undertake from 2010 to 2015 to improve access to its services, buildings and
information. The six desired outcomes provide a framework for improving
access and inclusion for people with disabilities.
This section of the DAIP uses tables to outline the:
 broad strategies that the individual tasks are supporting
 individual tasks being undertaken
 timelines for completion of the individual tasks
 staff with responsibility for individual tasks.
Strategies relevant to all health areas were represented as a separate section
in previous DAIP. They are included in individual plans specific to each health
area.
Strategies are presented in the following order:
 Armadale Health Service
 Bentley Health Service
 Child and Adolescent Community Health
 NMAHS Mental Health Services
 NMAHS Public Health and Ambulatory Care
 Osborne Park Hospital
 Pathwest Laboratory Medicine WA
 Rockingham Peel Group
 DoH (Royal Street)
 SMAHS Mental Health
 Swan Kalamunda Health Service
 WA Country Health Service
The core accreditation program for health services is the Evaluation and
Quality Improvement Program (EQuIP) of the Australian Council of Healthcare
Standards (ACHS). This program guides organisations through a four-year
cycle of Self-Assessment, Organisation-Wide Survey and Periodic Review to
meet ACHS standards.
The current EQuIP version, EQuIP 4 has a strong focus on clinical care and
consumer participation and includes three main topic areas, these being
clinical, support and corporate.
As required for accreditation purposes, strategies developed by health
services to improve access for people with disabilities have been crossreferenced with the relevant EQuIP 4 criteria. A copy of the EQuIP 4 criteria
is provided in Appendix 4
(see entire document).
