Adding apprenticeships to the Mears Group web site Go to http://www.mearsgroup.co.uk/wp-admin I strongly suggest using Google Chrome as your web browser on your work computer for entering any information on the admin screen. You might have to contact support for this to be installed. Once you are logged in, click on Job Listings on the left hand side: This screen will show you all the jobs that have been added, along with some details on when they were uploaded, closing date, categories, etc. Along the top of the grey area of the screen, you’ll see options which will filter views, so you can show current jobs only, jobs that are scheduled for publishing, drafts that have been done, deleted jobs and jobs that have expired. I will explain later on how to relist an expired job, but for now we’ll cover adding a new job and editing an existing job. To add a new job you can either click on Add New at the top if the screen next to Job Listings, or click on Add New on the left hand side where you clicked on Job Listings earlier. You’ll now be presented with a blank form with which to enter the data. The first thing to do is to click on the blue BACKEND EDITOR button: Next, you will see three buttons appear: Add element, Add row and Templates. Move your mouse over Templates and you’ll see a list drop down: These are templates we’ve set up for people to add content easier, who don’t want to mess around with the layout. The title in this one is Jobs – Apprenticeship Form v2, the number on the end might change as things are altered. For now, click on Jobs – Apprenticeship Form v2. A lot of boxes will now appear suddenly, but don’t panic; there isn’t much information to change. I’ll go through this in the order I do things currently, but the sequence doesn’t matter, it’s just my preference. I’ll use Job reference 1282 as an example. Let’s open that document in Word so we can copy and paste the information. Position Since the jobs entered here are also posted to Twitter and Facebook, we came up with the title being the job title and the location of the job. So in this example it would be IT Apprentice. Job Categories and Job Types These depend on the job, but for this one I put it under Apprenticeship and IT for category and Apprenticeship and Full Time for Job Types. You can choose as many options here as you want. If you want to add a new one, you can just click on + Add New Job Category or + Add New Job Type and enter the name. Job Description This is the main one that will take more time than anything else. Hover over the Apprenticeship description goes here text and a pencil icon will appear on the left side. Click on the pencil and a box will come up that should look familiar, it’s a mini editor that allows you to bold text, make a bulleted list, etc. Click on the Text tab that’s to the right in this box. If you’re copying and pasting from Word to this editor and you do it in the Visual tab, it makes a complete mess of it. Let’s go to the job specification that is created for each job. I select from JOB PURPOSE down to KEY TASKS, based on the current template. Right click and select Copy. Now flip back to the browser, delete the text that’s in there. Right click and press Paste. Click on the Visual tab and go through and make the headings bold, like JOB PURPOSE, REQUIRED SKILLS, etc but highlighting the text and pressing CTRL+B to make them bold. Occasionally the bulleted list from Microsoft Word goes a little wrong, like this: *IMAGE* So I delete the numbers, and select the block of text you want to make a bulleted list, and press the icon. That is the major pain bit done. Before you click Save, we’ll take this chance to upload the job specification form to the web site. Now, you don’t have to worry about the name of the file, it can be anything you want. To upload the file, click on the Add Media button: Click on the Upload Files tab, and you can either drag the Microsoft Word or PDF onto that window (it’ll turn blue) or you can click on the Select Files button in the middle of the screen which will bring up the standard file requester. Either way, it’ll now upload the file. Once it’s done, it will automatically highlight the box in the bottom right corner call ATTACHMENT DISPLAY SETTINGS. Right click on that highlighted text and select Copy. Now click on the X to close that little window, NOT THE X THAT CLOSES THE BROWSER! You’ll now be back at the text editor; we can now click on the blue Save button. Scroll down the page a bit; we can skip a few bits until we get to the buttons. Don’t worry about the gap. Now we need to edit the Download job specification button. Hover over that button, and the pencil will appear again. Click on that, and we need to go to the Link URL box, this is the address of the job specification that we just uploaded and will allow the user to download. Delete the text that is in there at the moment, and right click and press Paste and it should look like this: Now click Save. Unless the application form has changed, we don’t need to touch the Download apprenticeship application form. Job Listing Data We’re now on the home straight, just a bit more to do. Job Location This is what shows the map on the job listing, so enter the postcode of the branch. It’s autocomplete so select one o the options that come up in the list. In this case it’s M8 0AD. I’ve found it’s always better to click on the option given in the drop down box as it give better geo-location information. Feature this job listing? This will show the job on the right hand side of the initial jobs page, http://www.mearsgroup.co.uk/working-formears/ Job Expires and Application closing date This is when the job will disappear from the web site. If the job doesn’t expire, you can skip this. If it’s needed, click in the text box next to Job Expires and date picker will come up, select a date. Application closing date needs to be the same so select the text and drag it into that box as well. I will automate this at a later date. Posted by I always choose Mears Apprenticeships from here, but it’s your choice really. Accountable to This is in the job specification so copy that text into here; in this case it’s Regional Business Solutions Manager/ Business Assurance Manager. Job Reference This is 1282 in this case. Branch and Different email You can choose a branch to get a copy of the job application from the drop down list. I always choose Mears Ltd [[email protected]] for this one. Different email is in case you want the email to go to somewhere not in the list. You use both of these options if necessary. We’ve now filled in the job. Scroll to the top of the page. There’s a choice here of what you want to do. If you’re absolutely happy that the job is ok, click the blue Publish button. If you have any doubts whatsoever, or just want another pair of eyes to look over it first, click on the grey Save Draft option. You can come back to it later and Publish it later. Editing existing job or drafts If you have a draft or want to edit an existing job, go to the All Job Listings options down the left side. In the top right you can see there is a Search Job Listings and you put the job reference, and it’ll display the matches. Again, you can click on the pencil icon on that row to edit the job. The edit screen is exactly the same as when you added a new job. You can edit as much as you like, and click on the blue Update button at the top of the screen.
