Why/Why not? p Welsh rarebit c) Present your recipe to a partner with the help of your mind map. Welsh rarebit Welsh rarebit is a traditional Welsh meal. A legend says that it was called “Welsh rabbit” at first – but there’s no rabbit inside this dish! People already ate it in the 1700s, so it’s a very old meal. The most important part is cheese. The Welsh love cheese very much and it is said that they were the first people who used cooked cheese in their dishes. This is what you need: A piece of bread and, for the sauce, flour, butter, some beer or milk, Cheddar cheese, English mustard and some pepper. This is how you make it: Put on the oven (200°C). Mix all the things you need for the sauce in a mixing bowl. Then put the sauce on your bread. Put the bread in the oven so that the cheese sauce turns thick and bubbling. It’s a perfect dish for vegetarians because you don’t need any meat. You can add meat though, if you want to. This is what you need: potatoes, milk, butter and salt for the mashed potatoes, hard-boiled eggs and, for the sauce, two large leeks, milk, flour, Cheddar cheese, salt and pepper. This is how you make it: Put some butter in a big dish that you can put in an oven. Add the mashed potatoes and spread them in a thick layer. After that, peel the hard-boiled eggs and put them on the mashed potatoes. Push each egg softly into the layer. Then pour the leek and cheese sauce over.
