why child sponsorship is a good church strategy

WHY CHILD SPONSORSHIP
IS A GOOD CHURCH STRATEGY
Healthy, growing churches are filled with families who
want their children to have faith that lasts. Compassion
and Fuller Youth Institute observe: families who serve
together have greater success in developing resilient faith
in their children.
HELP YOUR FAMILIES GROW DISCIPLES OF CHRIST BY
PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE TOGETHER.
Give Back Day provides three hands-on experiences to help families
explore the question, “What is enough for our family?” And through
this exercise in spiritual formation, a family may discover that they
have more than enough and want to give back by serving others.
The apostle Paul said Christ called church leaders “to equip his people for
works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach
unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature,
attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-13 NIV
Here comes another layer: when we serve God by
serving children, we are following Jesus’ lead. We are
building disciples of Christ. Matthew 18:5 says “whoever
welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.”
Enter child sponsorship—a simple, strategic, tangible
way for families to unite as they serve, write to and pray
for children in need.

WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER MAKING CHILD SPONSORSHIP
A PART OF YOUR GIVE BACK DAY?
HERE ARE THREE GOOD REASONS:
#1 - Global kids are grateful kids
Give Back Day engages families in the daily life of our brothers
and sisters in Christ who live with less but can teach us about
“enough.” Sponsoring a child acknowledges our “enough” and is an act
of gratefulness for God’s provision.
#2 - People are invited to take a step of faith
Throughout the Give Back journey there is often increased compassion for those who do
not have “enough.” Child sponsorship is one way to respond to God’s call to live closely with
him and to put faith into action.
#3 - Each family can serve God’s global world uniquely
When you encourage families to serve “the least of these” by sponsoring a child, you are
providing an environment for parents and children to unite on mission. Research shows:
families who serve together, spiritually grow together.

Since 1952, Compassion International has been releasing children
from poverty in Jesus’ name. Our work is carried out in partnership
with more than 7,000 indigenous, evangelical churches that are
equipped to serve and support their communities’ children in
need. It’s an effective strategy that provides culturally-relevant
care for children while strengthening the local church.
