Minutes & matters arising from the last Delegates Meeting held 11 th November 2013: Points highlighted by BP from the previous delegates meeting were-: o a unique EGM item which officially appointed Paul Grimes as the new League Secretary retrospectively from the start of the 2013-14 season, o subsequently, at the delegates meeting which immediately followed, PG's first league report, o in the absence of PH, competition fees primarily for the Leeds City Championships were taken by AT, o BP in his report as General Secretary, described again the letter sent at the beginning of the season, to clubs which usually disallowed juniors from playing in the league on Wednesday night, inviting them to ignore their rules just for the night, and o a very disappointing response to the November raffle / lottery. No other matters were arising out of the minutes. Proposed as a true record by Adrian Social and seconded by Beeston Hill Social. PAUL GRIMES – LEAGUE SECRETARY’S REPORT: PG started his input with a personal thank you to PH, for all his assistance in helping PG start and settle into his new role. PG announced points deductions concerning 2 matches in the D & G divisions for the late submission of results, which show in red figures on the points column of the league tables tab, but not necessarily which match is involved. PG also confirmed there were 2 outstanding fixtures both in F division, and named the teams involved, although he added both were due to be played on 17th December 2013. Continuing on the same theme, PG told the meeting that quite a few teams were rearranging matches, which he said he didn’t particularly mind providing he is made aware and told of the re-arranged date, but he didn’t think it was particularly good where some teams were doing this that had more than a dozen players registered. PETER HAWKYARD – COMPETITION SECRETARY’S REPORT: PH gave an update on competitions already in progress or still to start, namely-: in the Leeds City Championships, the singles and pairs Snooker were well under way and the team competition was opened for entries the day before the meeting 8th December 2013, 2 the dates for the semi-finals and finals of all the Leeds City Championships were now fixed and were now shown on the website – under ‘news & events’ dated 22/11/13, the Sykes cup had attracted 93 entries and the draw for the 1st round had been posted on the website on the 24th November, along with the 1st round for the Len Lee Pairs; the Stan Brooke Memorial aggregate singles, pairs and team competitions were open for entry but were at the time considerably down on last season, the Len Lee Invitation (usually the top 32 snooker players) would be next to start, then followed by the 3-man knock out at the end of the league season. As a general point during his address, PH did ask for delegates and their teams, to try and support the competitions as much as they possible could, since the actual numbers entered, will have a bearing on the amount of LBSO funds to be spent on prizes come the end of the season. BOB PATTERSON – GENERAL SECRETARY / TREASURER’S REPORT: BP as usual started by running down the list of clubs not in attendance - 6 out of 58 (10%) - about average from the last few meetings. On finances, BP quoted the figure of £8, 319-50 as being the official balance of the LBSO at the time of the meeting, from £8,006-53 the previous month. Finally, in an attempt to re-iterate the point made a little earlier by PH, BP told the meeting that the entries for this seasons competitions to date were slightly up overall (with only the LL Pairs down by 9 entries), however, with 5 snooker teams fewer in the league this year (106 from 111), the overall fees deficit was approximately £200 compared to last year! ANY OTHER BUSINESS / CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED: None. MONTHLY RAFFLE / LOTTERY: Discontinued. As was declared in the email dated 5th December and circulated to captains / delegates prior to the meeting, despite the price of each ticket being reduced this season from £8 to £5, mainly due to a lack of continued support from too many clubs, it has unfortunately proved necessary to discontinue the monthly draw. Intended as an item to encourage added interest at delegates meetings for the majority of clubs attending, and not only for financial reasons, a lack of support by far too many clubs has meant that the whole process has now become inefficient and more time consuming than intended as a result. Therefore, the draw is discontinued but thanks need to go to those clubs which did give the idea regular support. DATE OF NEXT DELGATES MEETING: It was announced during this meeting, that it would be necessary to hold a meeting in January 2014. AT concluded the meeting by wishing everybody a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year, and reminding everybody that the next meeting would be on Monday 13th January 2014. Bob Patterson.
