Whistle Blast II, 05/2010

Volume XII Issue II May 2010
Time flies! It’s hard to believe that the show is just
a few short months away. There are some exciting
changes coming for our show, as you’ll read below.
Work Day Scheduled: A workday has been
scheduled for Saturday, May 22 at Westfall’s.
Beginning at 10:00 a.m., we will work on
assembling name badges and Look signs, and any
other tasks that can be done ahead of the show to
make things smoother at the show. If we’re still
working at lunchtime, we’ll take a break to go to
lunch in Battle Ground.
Changes for 2010: Our organization purchased 10
additional maple trees that were planted at the
amphitheater. The traditional ice cream that has
been provided on Wednesday of the show week
will be discontinued this year. Instead, look forward
to homemade ice cream & goodies at the General
meeting after the show. The Directors are
considering some changes to the layout of the
grounds, specifically of the entertainment & feature
tents. Further information will be provided at the
July general meeting.
Changes for 2011 and beyond: One of the major
complaints we hear about the show is from those
who attend on Sunday. Many exhibitors pull out on
Saturday afternoon, leaving few displays for those
who pay to see the show on Sunday. Another
concern for the exhibitors is the schedule of the
show, which conflicts with the dates of the
Tippecanoe County Fair. Both these items were
discussed by the Directors. The recommended
solutions were 1) to change the days of the show to
Thursday, Friday, & Saturday, and 2) to change the
show schedule to the following weekend. This will
be either the last weekend of July or the first
weekend of August. These items were brought to
the April 25 General Meeting for votes. Both
recommendations passed, and will be implemented
in 2011.
2011 Features: The 2011 show will feature Oil
Field engines & Minneapolis Moline tractors.
2010 Show Volunteer Opportunities: Sign-up
sheets will be available at the July General
meeting, but feel free to contact the organizer to
sign up for your preferred work shift. We’ll also be
sending reminder cards to those that sign up. We
know that’s a busy time, so we hope this will help
remind volunteers of their commitments.
The Registration area will need volunteers from
Thursday through Sunday. Registration is located
on the north end of the amphitheater building,
under the overhang. In addition to registering
exhibitors, these volunteers are also responsible for
collecting membership dues, selling hats, T-shirts,
and buttons. Cyrena Westfall (765-497-0137) will
be coordinating that area. Workers for this area will
be in the shade.
Workers will be needed at the main gate to direct
exhibitors, collect ticket money, and give directions
and information. Volunteers are needed Thursday
(to direct incoming exhibitors only), and on Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday, from about 7:00 a.m. until
the time that we determine to stop selling tickets.
Workers will be outside during their shifts at the
gate, and you’ll need to be on your feet most of the
time. Please contact Jake Westfall (765-426-8409)
or Tony Haan (765-463-6022) for details.
Tractor drivers will be needed for the shuttles
during the show. You need to be over 18 years of
age and a licensed driver with your own tractor.
We’ll also need riders on each shuttle wagon to
make sure that guests get on and off safely. Kirk
Young (765-589-7040) is coordinating drivers and
riders.
We’ll need people to help with parking. This will
mostly be on Saturday. You’ll be on your feet in the
parking lot/soccer fields for this job. This might be
an opportunity for our Junior Members to help with
the show. Please contact Fred Halsema for details.
His number is 765-572-1036.
Set-up before the show: Even if you’re not able to
help in one of these areas, there will be plenty of
work the days prior to the show to set up tents,
tables, equipment, place signs, and other work. We
need all the help we can get. We will start about
7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 19. Stay for a couple of
hours or stay all day.
We’re on the Web: In addition to our website
(www.tsgpai.org), take a look at our postings on the
following:
 Smokstak.com
 OldIronHeaven.com
 AntiquePower.com
 FarmallCub.com
 Yesterday’s Tractor (ytmag.com)
 Collector’s Weekly
If you know of other sites that we should be
updating with our show info, please let one of the
Directors know.
In Memory: Our thoughts & prayers are extended
to the family of John Baugher of Otterbein. John
exhibited gas engines at our show for many years.
He passed away on March 19. Also, Norma Sterrett
passed away on May 1. Deepest sympathies are
extended to the entire Sterrett family. Our
sympathies are also extended to the family of Jim
Burghardt. Jim, a lifetime TSGPA member and
antique auto buff, passed away on May 8.
Gate Book Ads: If you sponsored an ad in last
year’s gate book, you will be contacted in the next
few weeks by a Director or Advisor to see if you
want to include your ad again this year. Ad prices
are the same amount as last year. If you’ve not
advertised in the gate book before, and would like
to, contact Peggy at the number below. We need
your updated ads and/or your donation by June 1 in
order to get the gate book ready for the printer.
New Director elected: Due to the resignation of
Pat McFadden from his Director’s position, Steve
Butram was elected at the April 25 General meeting
to fill the remaining portion of the term. Thanks to
Steve for stepping up to fill this position.
Upcoming events:
 Work Day – May 22 – 10:00 a.m. at Westfall’s
 Directors Meeting – June 24 – 7:00 p.m. at
Westfall's
 General Meeting – July 11 – 2:00 p.m. at
Westfall's (BRING DESSERTS)
 2010 Show set-up dates – Monday, July 19 –

 2010 Show dates – July 23, 24, 25.
Safety First: Just a reminder to exhibitors to watch
out for visitors, especially children, who may not be
aware of the danger of running displays &
equipment. Also, please no firearms or explosive
devices in the display area or flea market.
President’s Comments: Hello again, everyone. I
hope everyone is well & preparing for the upcoming
show, which will be here before we know it. I am
excited about the upcoming changes made to our
show for 2011 and beyond. I think this will help
alleviate some of the complaints and help possibly
with the attendance at our show. Please, everyone,
try to do your part by signing up for one of the
areas needing volunteers. There is no reason with
as many members that we have that we all can’t
help out in some small way. This would lessen the
burden put on others. I would also like to
congratulate Steve Butram for his director position.
Until our next meeting, thanks for all the help. Our
show could not happen without all of us helping in
some way. Keep polishing your tractors and
working on new exhibits.
Thanks, Shane
