Following the announcement that from September 2012 GCSE specifications will move to linear assessment, this scheme of work has been
adapted to help you implement the Edexcel GCSE Religious Studies Short Course or Full Course specification in a linear way. It can be used to
deliver the teaching models presented in the Course Planner, but is not intended to be prescriptive and is provided in editable Word format to
make adaptation as easy as possible.



important for Christians to believe that Jesus
is the Son of God.
Students draw a mind map with the words
‘Son of God’ in the centre, and write as many
connected ideas onto the mind map as
possible.

The meaning, and importance

Jesus is the Son of God.

Students discuss the idea of Jesus being the
Son of God rather than having an earthly
father.

In groups, students write down reasons why
Christians think it is important that Jesus is

Students work out from the video and from
their knowledge of the Holy Spirit in the Bible
what the Holy Sprit means for Christians,
and write a five-line description.

They write a list of four reasons why the Holy
Spirit is important for Christians and then a
list of four reasons why the Holy Spirit might
not be important for some Christians.

Students revise the meaning of sin and the
problems associated with sin (entry into
heaven). Teacher explains what ‘salvation
from sin’ means.

Students produce a poster explaining what
salvation is, and explaining the word
‘atonement’.




Teacher gives students a sheet with the
hours of the day written down the side. They
write onto the sheet how at each hour loving
God might affect someone's life, e.g. prayer,
helping others, going to church, wearing a
cross.

Students divide students into groups. One
group designs a poster based on The Most
Important Commandment, one on the Good
Samaritan and one on the Parable of the
Sheep and Goats. The posters should include
the whole of the reference and an
explanation of the teachings.


what the teachings are and why they are

the priest, and possibly a couple of
parishioners. They collect a newsletter/
bulletin. Their aim is to find out what
happens within the parish that shows love of
