Musketeer Baseball Test Protocols
10, 30, 60 Yard Dash:
Equipment and Materials:
1. Stopwatch
2. Measuring tape
3. Flat running surface
4. 4 cones for start and finish lines
5. Must be run in baseball shoes
Procedure
1. Base stealing position with right foot just behind line
2. Clock will start on runners first move
3. Time recorded to nearest 10th of a second (i.e. 7.1)
4. Each runner will get two attempts at each distance (10>30>60) fastest time is recorded
5. Care should be taken to run same direction each testing period
Causes for disqualification
1. Foot over line
2. Incorrect primary lead technique
3. Right toe behind left heel
Vertical Jump:
Equipment and Materials:
1. Vertec jump tester
2. Measuring tape
3. Athletic shoes
Procedure
1. Reach measurement- Stand with side to wall. Athlete reaches as high as possible with both
feet flat and hits Vertec vanes- record height.
2. Jump measurement- Stand with side to wall. Athlete jumps hitting highest possible vane. No
steps are permitted.
3. Three jumps are allowed. If third jump as highest he can make multiple attempts until he
cannot improve height.
4. Measure and record distance between reach and jump measurements.
Causes for disqualification
1. Feet and hips not next to wall during reach
2. Feet not flat on reach
3. Taking step or shuffling feet on jump
Bench Press (%BW)
Equipment and Materials:
1. Scale
2. Spotter
3. Bench
4. Bar, weights, collars
Procedure
1. Players weight is used to calculate weight
2. 75% of players weight placed on bar with collars
3. Lying flat, feet on floor, bar grasped 6 inches further than shoulder width, spotter ready
4. Bar lowered to touch chest, pressed to full extension
5. Number of complete repetitions are recorded
Causes for disqualification
1. Bouncing bar off chest.
2. Back arching off of bench
3. If spotter helps on last rep, that rep does not count
Pull-Up Test:
Equipment and Materials:
1. Pull-up bar high enough to allow athlete to hang without touching floor
Procedure
1. Grasp bar with overhand grip
2. Start at fully extended hang position
3. Raise body until chin clears bar
4. Lower body to full extension
Causes for disqualification
1. Not clearing bar with chin
2. Not lowering to full extension
3. Swinging, kicking, or jerking movements
Sit-Up Test:
Equipment and Materials:
1. Stopwatch
2. Flat ground
3. Partner
Procedure
1. Two minutes to perform as many sit-ups as possible
2. Flat on back, knees 90 degrees, partner holding feet, arms folded across chest
3. Elbows touch thighs, arms remaining folded against chest, return until lower back and should
blades touch ground
Causes for disqualification
1. Bouncing
2. Buttocks coming off ground to get momentum
3. Shoulder blades not touching ground in down position
4. Elbows not touching thighs
5. Allowing a gap between arms and chest
240 Yard Base Circle Test:
Equipment and Materials:
1. Stopwatch
2. Baseball infield with 90 foot bases
3. Bases
Procedure
1. Runner starts with right foot just behind home plate
2. Clock starts on runners first move
3. Circle bases two times stopping watch when player touches home plate on second lap
Causes for disqualification
1. Missing a base
Players will also be tested regularly for:
 height
 weight
 body fat%
 pitchers velocity
 position player velocity
 bat exit speed
Scores will be recorded on a card four times per year
throughout each players MHS baseball career.
