About 204,000 individuals are employed by this system. There are a total of 165 hospitals with 115 free-standing surgical centers. The states and country included are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and the United Kingdom. This presentation is going to focus specifically on the Healthcare System located in Virginia Origins and Statistics HCA was founded in 1968 by two physicians with their base located in Nashville, Tennessee. They are considered the world’s leading provider of healthcare services and are one of the first national hospital companies. Inpatient care comprises about 4-5% of all care in the hospital systems of the US today. This system is very committed to keeping it’s facilities up to date and invests around $1.5 billion dollars every year to ensure this. This facility treats patients through 3 areas: medical, mechanical, and surgical. 1. Medical Medications 2. Mechanical PT and OT 3. Surgical Joint replacements, sports injuries, treatment of tears, disc herniation, and various syndromes Preoperative classes and information booklets are available for the patient so they know what to expect before, during, and after the surgery. Women’s and children’s services This service includes labor, delivery, and other medical services related to this. Parenting classes are available to help future moms and dads to prepare for the baby’s arrival and what to expect when going home. Patients have the option to pre-register their baby before arriving at the hospital. This facility boasts having all tests/ measurements of your baby done in the same room to ensure as much bonding with the family as possible. Other related services are antepartum/postpartum, childbirth education classes, labor and delivery, lactation services, newborn nursery, NICU, and perinatology. Lab testing services This facility performs a wide range of tests on patients to help with diagnosis and treatment of various disorders. Surgical Services Surgical services provided by this facility are general surgery, gynecology, vascular surgery, orthopedics, urology, and weight loss surgery. This facility has been awarded the AAGL Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecology as well as the National Accreditation from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. 24-Hour Emergency/ Compassionate Care This facility broadcasts it’s average ER wait time on it’s website and can also be viewed by texting “ER” to 23000. The ER is open to anyone of any age. There are board certified Emergency physicians on hand. iNotify is a system by iTriage that this facility offers for it’s patients. This allows patients to let the ER know in advance that they are coming in and quickens the check-in process once they arrive. This app can be downloaded in the app store. Cardiac Care This facility is an Accredited Chest Pain Center. Services provided are catheterization, ultrasound, echocardiogram, EKG, treadmill tests, stress tests, holter monitoring, and coronary interventions and electrophysiology studies with pacemaker and defibrillator implants. Teams of specialists are brought in to make sure that each patient gets the best quality of care. Cancer care Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center has partnered with VCU Massey Cancer Center so they can provide patients with the newest radiation oncology services and more options. Dr. Michael Porrazzo is the Director of Radiation Oncology at this facility. Services include TrueBeam high energy linear accelerator, IGRT, IMRT, high dose rate afterloading, partial breast irradiation, stereotactic body radio-surgery, prone breast treatment, $-D general optima simulator, respiratory gating, and clinical trial options. Each patient will have a nurse who is specialized in oncology to help them through their course of treatment. This facility also takes steps to help reduce the chance of cancer by offering smoking cessation classes, colonoscopies, mammograms, and lung cancer screenings. Outpatient services, such as infusions, are also offered here. Rehabilitation Various therapy services are provided for patients undergoing many different health issues. Services provided are lymphedema therapy, sports/ orthopedic injuries, neurologic rehab for brain injuries, work related rehab, pediatric therapy, and speech and swallowing dysfunction. Professions involved in this are PT, OT, SPT, and Neurological/ cognitive therapists. Outpatient services are also provided. Behavioral health The acute inpatient setting if available for patients over the age of 18 who are suffering from behavioral or mental health issues such as depression or psychosis. There are 10 beds available in separate rooms for these type of patients to ensure privacy and safety. The assigned nurse stays with the patient and oversees the patient’s progress until they are released. They also help with the assessment and referral process of the patient. Services provided are medication management, supportive medical care, activities therapy, discharge planning, behavioral modification, and group therapy. Pediatric Friendly Emergency Care This facility is one of the best in its region for providing pediatric care. The ER has board certified pediatric physician, hospitalists, and nurses. They also keep in contact with local pediatricians to make sure that your child is well cared for after leaving the hospital. In the ER, the adult beds are separated from the child beds to ensure a more friendly environment. Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center uses the Broselow Artemis System to make sure that the dosing and administration drugs is correct. Safety is very important to this facility and they secure their pediatric floors with locked doors, security cameras, and monitors. Women’s Health This facility has a 64 slice CT scanner, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and Interventional Radiology. These devices will aid in the identification of specific breast and cardiac diagnoses. Imaging Services Includes all sort of injuries, diagnostic, and preventative care. Includes CT, MRI, Nuclear medicine, ultrasound, interventional radiology, and PET. Imaging is digital so that results can be seen quickly and viewed by other facilities via PACS. Payer Sources Accepted If patient is uninsured, monthly payment plans can be implemented if the patient is unable to pay at that time. They could also be eligible for an uninsured discount. Emergency care that cannot be paid for at the present time will be referred to a financial counselor to see if the patient qualifies for local or state programs such as County Assistance, Medicaid, Medicare, Get Covered America, or Charity Discount Policies. On their website, there is a payment estimate button that can be used to predict what the total amount of the procedure/hospital stay will be. Charity Policy and Get Covered America Charity Policy: Patients that receive an income of less than 200% of the Federal Policy Level, who receive non-elective care and do not qualify for Medicaid, can be eligible for this assistance. The patient must fill out a Financial Assistance Application and provide proof of current income. Get Covered America: Under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Helps you to find a plan that fits your budget. Insured Patients Most insurance companies are accepted. A service claim will be filed with your insurance company. The company may ask for additional details after reviewing the claim and will pay what it deems appropriate for the services provided. (30-45 days is usually this length of time) The facility will send the patient a bill of the remaining amount to be paid.
