Carterton Golf Report: Week ending 9th October 2016. By Wendy Wills On a wet Sunday our 2016 Club Championship Finals were held. The Men’s Results were: Seniors : Winner: Fraser Smith , Runner up: Trevor Barnard. Intermediates: Winner: Grant Smith, Runner up: Barry Bentley. Junior A : Winner: Jim Harris, Runner up: Max Baylis. Junior B: Winner: Dean Sadd, Runner up: Chris Conner. The Women’s Results were: Silver: Winner: Wendy Rhodes, Runner up :Vicki Bain. Bronze 1: Winner: Gay Martin, Runner up: Lesley Sadler. Bronze 2: Winner: Wendy Wills, Runner up: Susanne Fuller. Congratulations to All. A great day for the Vets on Tuesday as they hosted a busload of Central & Southern Hawkes Bay vets for their annual get together. A good field of 65 enjoyed warm spring playing conditions for their stableford round. Leading the Carterton scoring were: Larry Gray 38, Lindsay Sutton, Mike Newport and Rob Saxton 37, Murray Burns, Ian Brinkworth, Don Kinnell and Trevor Clayton 36, Ray Clarke and Ewen Thom 35, John Spencer and Chris Williams 34. Locals in the two’s prize pool were Peter Bain and Max Baylis while 5 of the visitors scored two’s. Nearest the pins were: Peter Bain and Chris Williams. On Wednesday the women played a stableford round. The Results were: 1: Lesley Sadler 33, 2: Christine Taylor 32, 3: Jenny Harris 30, 4: Dee Lukey 28, 5: Gay Martin 27. Nearest the pins were: Gay Martin and Anne- Marie Reast. 9 Holers also played a stableford round. The Results were: 1: Alison Bodle 10, 2: Joy Campbell 10, 3: Sue Fris 9. On Friday Elevenses, only seven players turned out for this week’s competition held in damp and cold conditions and with a southerly gale to contend with. Results: Bob Bentley 23 points, Mike Newport 22 points and George Rink 21 points. A Net round was played on Saturday on a fine but breezy day. Men’s Results were:1: Robin Campbell 70, 2: Chris Ranish 72, 3: Mark Graham 73, 4:Trevor Barnard 73, 5: Max Baylis 75, 6: Stu Ingham 76, 7: Dean Sadd 76, 8: Lynn Evans 76 9: Chris Connor 78. Women’s Results were: 1: Wendy Wills 72, 2: Sharon Harper 77, 3: Bernice Parker 80, 4: Lynette Morrell 81. Best Gross for the day was: Trevor Barnard with 77. Two’s were: Trevor Barnard, Duncan Pincock and Stu Ingham. Men’s Nearest the pins were: Dean Sadd, Grant Smith, Peter Woodcock and Graham Hutchby. Women’s Nearest the pins were not struck.
