Diebold JetSleeve ® A unique solution to your milling problems

Diebold JetSleeve ®
A unique solution to your milling problems
Diebold JetSleeve ® is not just a new system, but a new concept in
machining. It has been shown to reduce cutter-breakage and extend toollife significantly, yield an improved surface-finish, and most importantly, add
dollars to your bottom line while improving the quality of your product.
One of the hardest parts of making chips has always been getting rid of
them. Minimal-lubrication and air-blast are two of the more promising
technologies in use to solve this problem, but now, Diebold introduces a
totally new technology that makes short work of chips.
High-pressure coolant induction systems and
air-blast systems typically will not flush chips
and fines from deep cavities reliably and
effectively. In addition, these systems require
a large initial capital outlay and high continuing
costs for medium and medium-handling
equipment. Further, not all machines can be
equipped with these systems due to technical
requirements.
One of the most attractive features of the
JetSleeve® system is that it can be used on
ANY machine with a central-coolant supply.
With an MMS system, it can be even more
useful. The entire system is contained within the tool, and there are no
moving parts or delicate tubes. The affordability of this system ensures that
it can be justified to the most cost-conscious manager, and the ease of use
will win over the most skeptical machinists on the shop floor.
JetSleeve® tools are available for tools used on tilting spindles as well, with
special provisions for ensuring the delivery of the desired quantities of
lubricant.
The JetSleeve ® consists of a speciallyconstructed ThermoGrip® chuck and an
aluminum sleeve. The sleeve is provided with a
series of calibrated holes around the tool
opening to ensure a constant supply if the
desired amount of coolant or air to the cuttingtool. The small size of these holes forces the air
or coolant to accelerate to a very high velocity,
ensuring that any chips or fines created by the
machining process are flushed out immediately.
This means that the cutter does not run-over a
chip while cutting, and results in, roughly, a
doubling of tool life. This is especially useful in
“lights-out” operations.
Diebold JetSleeve ® is manufactured from the finest materials, and with
meticulous attention to details. The connection between the sleeve and the
toolholder is simply one O-Ring, and once the sleeve is tightened onto the
toolholder with a torque wrench, it will stay locked until it is deliberately
removed. Even repeated M19 sequences with a high-speed spindle will not
loosen the sleeve if properly installed.
Imbalance is kept to a minimum, in part by the low weight of the sleeve
itself. The largest sleeve we offer weighs only about one and three-quarters
ounces.
JetSleeve ® is available for virtually
all machines. Technical problems
that limit other systems are simply
not a consideration when using
JetSleeve ®.
Since the introduction of the
JetSleeve ® system at the AMB in
2010, many of our customers, and
many new customers have
incorporated it into their machine-tool
usage strategies. The results are
close to stunning.
The JetSleeve ® has invariably doubled
cutter life for our customers.
Cutter breakage due to chip interference
is eliminated.
Flood-coolant systems are ineffective,
and JetSleeve ® replaces them without
the need to buy high-priced MMS
systems.
Start-up costs are low. There are no
machine components to buy, only the
toolholder itself.
JetSleeve ® is robust and requires little or no maintenance.
JetSleeve ® eliminates the need to manually remove chips, increasing
process safety.
Machine utilization time improved significantly, resulting in cost reduction.
Finish milling of complicated contours is possible, eliminating the need for
expensive EDM work.
Simple Physics
Diebold Goldring JetSleeve ® uses the Venturi Effect
to radically increase the velocity of the cooling
medium. This is an elegant solution in that it employs
no moving parts, no expensive add-ons, nothing but
your present coolant delivery system and some simple
physics to solve your chip removal problems.
Simple construction
The JetSleeve ® consists of a
ThermoGrip Chuck with a modified nose
contour and the required jetting, and a
sleeve. The sleeve is screwed onto the
chuck nose, and seals on an O-Ring.
The sleeve has 16 small-diameter holes on it’s
face at different angles. These holes are
recessed a few tenths of a millimeter. The
differing angles and recesses guarantee that
there is no unswept spot on the workpiece, and
that the chips generated are cleared-out
immediately.
Diebold JetSleeve ® Chucks are available for
cutting tools with shanks between 3 and 20mm,
and in all HSK and Steep-Taper sizes. Special
lengths and variants are available as well.
Diebold JetSleeve ® can be used with
MMS units, air-only units, emulsion units,
or conventional through-tool coolant
supplies. Using MMS systems, the
consumption is roughly 30 ml of solution a
day.
