Raise your game intro for students

"The side has come
together well"
Duncan Jones
Wales Captain
“our only hope of real success is
to come together as a team,
that's my job, to get the structure
and systems in place.“
Pat Lam – Pacific Islands Coach
Key Skills don’t apply in the real world…they’re
only for doing in school or college…
I’ll have to stop you
there…the Raise Your
Game project proves that
Key Skills are vital in the
real world!!!
Here are some of our
interviews to prove it!
Hi there…I’m John Hammond…you might recognise me
from the Weather on the BBC!
I have to use number all the time…converting Celcius to
Fahrenheit…scales and areas on maps…. ….negative
numbers on temperatures etc.
We’re all using number regularly – 33% off when you’re
shopping; 10% off for buying online; working out your
overdraft, exchanging money for your hols…you can’t
deny it…we’re all applying number all the time!
“Communication is of paramount importance. In one given
day I might be speaking to children who are eight years
old, I could be speaking to my bosses at the radio station
or I could be speaking to the farmer who's just called up
and he wants to be a part of my show. You've got to be able
to communicate on all levels and still be yourself.”
DJ SPOONY – RADIO 1 DJ

It’s the digital age…letters we send, lists we
keep, e-mail, the internet…we’ve all got to be
ICT literate!
What do you have on your laptop?
Everything, I use it for my music, my photographs and home movies. The
programmes that I use the most are QuickTime, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro
and then all the office type programmes that you have.
How did you learn how to use all those programmes?
Play, play, play and more play. My advice to people would be just to play
with it. People are always worried about losing things on computers, but
really you can't lose that much information. The information will always be
there, you've just got to find it again. I'm still learning, I'll always be
learning.
Colin Jackson
“We sit down and talk to the players. We find out
what their goals are, how they think, the areas they
need to work on to improve as a player and the
ambitions that they have or don't have that we need
to talk about.”
Mike Ruddock
ex - Wales Rugby Coach
S – specific
M – measurable
A – achieveable
R – realistic
T – timed
E – exciting
R - recorded
You can be what you
want to be!
Go one step at a time
but keep improving!
…we all have problems, we can face them
or bury our heads in the sand.
Ask for help when you need it.
When you are losing it, what do you do?
“Everyone feels frustrated when things aren't going to
plan. Stop and re-assess from the very beginning. Things
go wrong when you're stressed and under pressure.
Remind yourself of that and re-focus. Stop being precious
about just how important you are. You need to find the
strength in yourself. There are always critics - don't listen
to them. Listen to yourself but be honest with yourself. I sit
in silence and think. If you can give an honest account of
yourself then you can deal with anything.”
Jamie Baulch
In the real world you have to work
with others all the time…and it
involves important interpersonal
skills…
“You can never communicate with enough people in this
job, as far as talking with physios, doctors and coaches.
The main thing is to make other people in the
organisation understand what your viewpoint is, whether
they accept it or not. At least they then know and
understand why you may be making some decisions.”
Andrew Hoare
Ex-Wales Rugby Conditioning Coach
And you thought I was lying when I
