READ EASES RELEGATION WORRIES
The early season euphoria surrounding Wycombe’s promotion to the dizzy heights of the 1st Division has been washed
away by the harsh realities of life in the big league as Wycombe have struggled to show the form that captured them the 2nd
division title in such style last season and a visit from high-flyers Paradisio seemed to be the last thing Wycombe needed
as they struggle to fight off the prospect of immediate relegation back to the second.
On current form this looked like an easy away win for Paradisio but Wycombe, at least for 90 minutes here today seemed
to re-capture some of the panache that has cruelly deserted them so far this season.
Both sides suffered from the conditions but Wycombe seemed to adapt better and although possession-wise it was pretty
even, the home side created far more when they had the ball at their feet compared to their opposition and it was
Paradisio, much to their surprise, who found themselves somewhat on the back foot.
Wycombe continued to press all game, perhaps sensing that a much-needed 3 points may just be available here today but
Paradisio dug deep and defended bravely and, thanks to some fantastic goal-keeping at times, managed to thwart
Wycombe up until the 80th minute when LURPARK finally broke the deadlock with a mighty 30 yard piledriver in to the top
corner as the roars of the home fans reverberated around the stadium.
A much-needed win for Wycombe who may now have finally turned the corner and the team that READ has been patiently
building so far this season finally seems to have come to fruition. A long way to go for them still but I have a feeling that we
will still be seeing them in the top flight come next season.
Another 2 sides flirting with relegation faced up to each other today as Saints hosted Hobbiton. The away side had a pretty
good start to the season which has faded slightly as the weeks have progressed while their opponents have somewhat
surprisingly struggled so far and seemed to be under-achieving and 3 points here would be a welcome boost to either side.
Both sides had key players out due to injury or suspension but were still able to field competitive teams thanks to some
good strength in depth.
It took only 13minutes played for Saints to open the scoring and set the tone for the game as ZIVA capitalises on a poor
defensive error to give the home side the lead. EUGENE makes it two after half an hour played and Saints were looking
good. Hobbiton have a good spirit about them though and bounced back almost immediately as DAVIS scores his 7th of
the season to drag them back in to it.
The second half started with Hobbiton showing early spirit but this was crushed as Saints counter and SOUZA rounds off a
box-to-box move with a header to make it 3. The away side tried to make a game of it and started leaving gaps at the back
as they pushed on. Saints looked comfortable under pressure though and were content to counter and it was BERREN who
put the game beyond any doubt, scoring twice late on to claim a hat-trick and the man of the match award.
A good win for Saints who now need to just try and consolidate while they await the return of midfield maestro GEMILL and
with his return they should see a few more victories. Hobbiton, although a good side, may struggle this season I can’t say
that they will avoid the drop this year.
but with few chances created as some heavy tackles from
both sides stifled any potential opportunities and at times
the ref struggled to maintain control of the proceedings.
FIRST WIN FOR ROVERS
As they take on derby rivals IFK Didi. Both teams are
struggling so far in the second but it was Didi who came in to
this looking the more likely to win it. The game started at an
aggressive level as both teams looked to stamp some
dominance on the game and it took just 4 minutes for the
referee to get his cards out as VIENTIANE is booked for a
late challenge but he turns from villain to hero as he opens
the scoring a few minutes late to give Ulpha the lead.
Ulpha extend their lead early in the second half as
FERNANDO TORRES runs through from midfield to head
home unmarked while just minutes later villain-turned-hero
VIENTIANE transforms back in to villain as he receives his
second yellow card and is duly sent off.
Then, just as the away fans thought this event may signal
a comeback for their team, Ulpha score a 3rd in what was
the most bizarre fashion. Sweeper PUTIN, taking the

freekick inexplicably hits the ball straight to the feet of
opposition midfielder MEKONG who simply lifts it first time
back over the head of PUTIN to find HARRISON unmarked in
the box. The forward makes no mistake with his header and
jubilant Ulpha are 3-0 up and cruising.
fairly late on in the second half as Sofia, who had been on top
throughout the match, deservedly got a second to make it 2-0
and make the game safe.
Sulis never looked like scoring out there today and full credit
for this must go to Sofia who shrugged off their lowly table
placing to record a very good and well executed win. Now if
they can just find a ‘keeper......
Didi do make use of the extra man and begin to press
forward and are rewarded on 65 minutes as YALCIYNA pulls
one back but then Ulpha effectively close ranks to see out
the last 25 minutes as the frustration of the away side boils
over and they receive 2 more yellows late on for frankly
stupid challenges.
FC Porto are another team who put a stick in the spoke of
another promotion hopeful as they held Edoras to a 1-1 draw
in a game that the visitors must have fancied winning. Edoras
have hit a blip in form recently and after being lauded in these
very sheets for winning their first 6 games they find themselves
now with just 2 points from a possible 9, a downturn which
must be halted soon if they are to retain any promotion hopes.
Spiritus Santos are another side who also pull off a good, if
somewhat fortunate, win against higher-placed opposition as
Botafogo’s inconsistency returns to haunt them. The away
side definitely had the better of this encounter but couldn’t
find the net while homesters Santos score 2 goals from just 2
chances created with a show of clinical finishing.
Porto had done their homework and although their marking
ploy wasn’t totally successful it was good enough to throw their
opponents out of balance and they simply dominated this
match from the off.
ZEXZYLON opens the scoring for them after just 16 minutes
as he heads home and while Botafogo looked to even the
score their forwards had an off day and squandered some
gilt-edged chances. Santos meanwhile took full advantage of
their opponents unintended goodwill and scored again on the
half hour to give themselves a 2-0 cushion as PRIEST shows
his opposition counterparts how it’s done.
Superior possession gave them plenty of chances through the
midfield but it was Edoras who struck first through
KARAKOWSKI to give the leaders an undeserved if not
unexpected lead but Porto were far from finished and struck
back well to finally break a stubborn Edoras rearguard and
from there they should have gone on to win it as they had
plenty of chances in the final 20 minutes but Edoras somehow
held on and were very lucky on the day to come away with a
draw.
The second half saw Santos with their backs to the wall for
most of it as Botafogo tried to find a way back in to the game
but thanks to some excellent defending and a die hard
attitude, the away side found further chances hard to come by
and will look back at this one with a sense of regret as
chances missed cost them dear as Wymondham now go 5
points clear of them at the top.
BURNDEN BURN BODIUM
“On the up” is the phrase on the lips of anybody involved in any
way with Burnden Villa as they record their 3rd win of the
season in an evenly-matched game against Dukla Bodium.
Not much in this to separate both sides apart from some quality
finishing up front from the visitors but what finishing it was as
Villa score twice, early and late on to secure the win.
SOFIA DAMPEN SULIS AMBITIONS
Aqua Sulis, currently flying high in the 3rd, were handed out a
footballing lesson here today as they succumb to mid-table
Sofia Utd who perhaps are slightly under-achieving at the
moment and if they can find a top-class goalkeeper, may pull
off a few shocks this season.
ARSHAVIN opens the scoring for them after just 5 minutes to
stun the home side who fought valiantly but couldn’t get a grip
on the game as both sides struggled to create any real
chances and almost at the death, where tired legs played a big
part, it was ADEBAYOR who made the game safe.
Manager OLI JONES got his tactics spot on today as he
anticipated the expected heavy forward line from Sulis and
effectively countered it by ordering midfielder LEANDRO to
drop deep and cover his defenders. This negated much of the
Sulis attacking threat and took the pressure of his side,
allowing them to play with more confidence.
A big win for the Villa who now ease up in to 6th and have a
promotion spot in their sights, whether or not they have enough
in them to sustain any realistic challenge, well only time will tell
as this side is definitely still a work in progress but the future’s
bright the future is Burnden.
They deservedly took the lead half way through the first half
when HONECKER cracked in a loose ball to open the scoring
and they continued to take the game to a rather bewildered
Sulis who had expected to dominate and found themselves
instead under the cosh. No more goals were scored until
Meanwhile, on to Thors Hammer who sit as atop the 4th
division pile and they did what Thors Hammer does best quite simply, win and win well. It did take them half an hour to
open their account against a determined Hawtonvile side who
2
sat back and countered where possible but it was almost
continuous one way traffic and after that first one went in the
result was never in doubt.

WYCOMBE VS WYMONDHAM
SNOWDONIA/PARADISIO VS SAINTS
Ultimately, it will be Centurions who progress from the first tie
although I expect them to need to beat Purley Kings to get
there. I have to plump for Daggers in the second tie while,
being a sucker for the underdog, I am going to say
Wymondham in the 3rd but I have seen READ make a lot of
writers eat their words over the years so this will be one to
watch. The 4th tie is definitely the tie of the round and again I
am going to plump for the underdog Snowdonia.

Burnden judge their bid to perfection to bring in keeper
STRAZNIK which will definitily make them harder to beat for
the rest of this season. Thors ring in young blood in the form
of sweeper POLSKA for a very good price (and believe me, it
had to be) while Saints plan for the future by laying out in
excess of a million for defender POLANSEK. I am sure he will
live up to the price tag though. Immortals take full advantage
to bring in Polish hardman BABLA in a very good deal
although how much we will see of him this season is in doubt.

STANDING ORDER PAYMENTS - you can also pay your turn fees by
standing order now. Contact us for details about how to do this and
remember that this is not only the way to spread your payments over
the year rather than having to find a lump sum at the start of every
season, but it is also the way to avoid those dreaded double turn fees.
With SO payments this can’t happen.

Note this offer is limited to ONE TEAM PER MANAGER
AND PAYPAL PAYMENTS MUST INCLUDE THE FEE PAID AT YOUR END

AUCTION NOTES
From now onwards we would like you to always write, `don't sell if he turns star in the messages to GM box
EVEN IF HE IS A LEVEL TWELVE STAR, as well as ticking the relevant DON'T SELL box in teampick. NOTE
THAT TICKING THE BOX IS THE MAIN DECISION-MAKER IN WHETHER A PLAYER IS SOLD OR NOT,
the GM Message is just to help the GM as during the transfers we have no way of knowing whether a player
has become level twelev in THAT SESSION.!
Also PLEASE DO NOT leave partially-completed transfers in your transfer section, i.e. leaving the team name
or the player, etc., it is laziness on your part and might result in strange things happening to your team!!!
And you MUST spell the names of the players included in any deal correctly. If you don't then the program
might refuse them and they don't go through, so be careful.
In future, you are allowed multiple conditional bids from which the program will attempt to purchase
just one item. However, you are also allowed multiple Unconditional bids from which the program will attempt
to purchase all. teampick users just have to use the relevant boxes in the program, those who don't use
teampick must ensure they stick to these rules and make it clear on their turns just what they want to happen in
their bidding process.
LSO, be careful when doing deals etc. The program works on team order, which can cause problems.
Best idea is NOT to have 25 players in your squad at the start of a turn and do deals and sell to NL, cos
if the manager you are doing a deal with has a lower team number than yours, the program will say
you have no space in your squad, even though you are trying to sell players to the non-league. His
orders will be processed before yours!!
CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS Can be made to us using the PAYPAL service.
So if you want to pay anything by credit card then you could register with them
and give it a try. Also note that if you send your payments as a gift ALL of the
cash reaches us without any paypal fees being charged at our end and all is
credited to your account.
You can pay by card/paypal through our new web-site

KICKABOUT SERVICES
THE KICKABOUT COMMUNITY
MAILING - rather than sending SELFSEALING SSAE's, rather than getting
charged a £1 postage when you neglect to
send one in or if they don't arrive. Pay for allseason mailing and we provide the envelope,
the stamp, and the sticky label as well. No sweat. A
season costs £25.00 overseas, £15.00 UK, or pro
rataish if started during the season.
ALL EMAIL - if you have shomatch/ teampick
then you can elect not to have any
hardcopies sent to you at all as everything
can be done by email. Just let us know if you
wish to do this in future. Handy for those
abroad or in difficult postal areas. If you play in more
than one league, and paid for all season mailing it's
actually cheaper to buy shomatch and do it
this way.
TEAMPICK/ SHOMATCH/ MARKINFO - all the
info you need for these programs is at www.Teampick.co.uk
EMAIL CHAT LIST - yes, you can
subscribe to our email discussion group.
There is a list for general Kickabout topics,
a list for each individual league, one for the
vulcano, one for teampick subscribers, even
one for the weekend players. Learn more
about the game, talk to other players and
the Gm. To subscribe to the main list send a
blank
email
to
[email protected]. For others
you do the same except put the league,
name with Ka- infront of
subscribe.
However, some league lists have an ending
in .co.uk instead of .com, so if one doesn't
work then please try the other!!
One thing to note about subscribing to the
list, we post a regular schedule of where
every league is in the processing schedule,
NEW WEB-SITE
is now up and running,
www.Kickaboutonline. co.uk to see the goodies
MARKING INFO - Tim Dodge has put
together a clever little program that
allowss shomatch subscribers to gather all the
international squads together each session so
that you can use that info to get marking info.
Shomatch/ teampick subscribers get a file sent out a file
with all the int squads listed and this program pulls them
all together. Makes it easier than ploughing through
back newsletters, etc.
when it is sent out, when the latest returnby-date is. This is of great help and if you
have email you should really be receiving

SOCIAL MEDIA
We have finally been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century , pity all dinsoaurs aren't like that and
have upped our presence on social media sites. Links to our pages will soon appear on the web-site, but in the
meantime we can be foudn on

Online Kickabout
Via this I will now be keeping everybody in touch of what has happenned during the day and what
leagues have been sent out plus other goodies

MARKING UPDATE
We have worked out a system to check on anybody who is using last season's marking
numbers for the current season. Basically the program will save a list of all valid marking
successes each session and if somebody cries foul, that he has been marked by somebody
who hasn't scouted him, we can check and say yea or nay.
So from now onwards if you use last season's numbers then you will be
found out AND if guilty the result of the game will either be reversed or
decided against you.
ARE YOU PEP OR JOSE
As the mega managers hit the premiership time perhaps for KA managers to take on a new challenge. Our trusty
newsletter-writers have been looking through the unmanaged teams in various POSTAL leagues some of them
good, some of them poor, all of whom could do with your guiding hand putting them on the right path.
So below a list of the teams vacant so far as we work through this session, waiting for you to take over.
By each team is a description and the amount of free credit which you will receive if you take them on.
Also we will consider if you wish to move from your presently managed team and take on a new challenge, though
in this case no free credit just your existing credit transferred.
CHURCHILL
RIVENDELL bottom of division one after a certain Irish men jumped ship to show a certain sheff Wednesday fan how to
manage in the top flight (£50). A big job in hand here.
STOCKPORT DEVILS a division three side been in decline for many years though have the nucleus of a team (£30)
NEWTON
SHIPSTON ROVERS near bottom of division three BUT have 5.5 million in bank to help rebuild the side (£30)
MIKA GOLDEN FC of division three used to be a CIA front until their manager moved continents. Two decent specialists here
so something to build upon (£30)
HATHERSHAWE FC a side going down to Divison 4 as this lot neds a real fix. A real challenge side (£40)
WELLINGTON
HAYLING RANGERS awful fourth division outfit. Really need a manager after so long without cash to spend but a big job for
sure (£50)
ROXY AS Unmanaged for ages. have level 12 MF/A and 5.5 mill in bank but not much else (£30)
GLENCAIRN FC average 4th divison side but with plenty of decent level 12 players. A new manager could build something here
(£30)
RALEIGH
FOGGIA FLYERS a real challenge. Only five decnt players in this struggling fourth divsion club though they do have a boit of
cash to work with (£50)
AC COKE you'll need some patience here Plenty of dross in a 25 man sqaud, but you can sell off many to raise money to add to
the core of players (£40)
GLADSTONE
FEELHAILA FC another decent side though need some work doing, but more of a challenge as the bank cupboard is bare
(£30)
SHAKESPEARE
PORT NOIR UTD once top drawer side now on the slide. No money but have some hopes in their squad (£36)
DISRAELII
GEHENNA have nearly five million in the bank and in the top half of the table. Something to build on here I think (£30)
LIVINGSTONE
WALSALL HEATH class MF/A/D and a few decent players around him, with over a million to spend for improvements £30)
PREMIER
NEWCASTLE UTD once the preserve of a leprechaun they couls still be in the grove for rpomotion under right management
(£27)
ALBION ROVERS a struggling side who have been mismanaged over last couple of seaosns. Plenty of work here (name could
be change dcome end of season to your own vae team). (£40)

OCTOBER WEEKEND
So due to popular demand we have arranged another Norwich
Kickabout weekend. It will be held on the 6th to 9th of October
at the Lansdowne Hotel in Norwich. You book your room direct
with the hotel, if you mention Kickabout/spellbinder you get a
reduced room rate of £38 per night.
