1. (a) Write the properties of fuzzy set theory and explain.
(b) How is a fuzzy set represented? Define support, height and compliment of a fuzzy set.
2. Explain different types of membership functions used in fuzzification process.
3. What is fuzzy ‘if then rules’? How do these differ in Mamdani FIS and Sugeno FIS?
4. Prove the following properties of λ – cut on fuzzy relation. If R & S are the fuzzy relation:(i) (RUS) λ = Rλ U Sλ
(ii) (R∩ S) λ = Rλ ∩ Sλ
(iii) (R) λ = Rλ
5. (a) Given low pressure = {1/50+0.8/52+0.6/53+0.4/54+0.2/55+0/56} find the membership
function for pressure not very low.
(b) What do you understand by ‘cartesian product’ of two fuzzy sets? If A= {0.2/x1, 0.5/x2,
1/x3} and B = {0.3/y1, 0.9/y2} find the Cartesian product between A & B.
(c) Fuzzy theory has generally been confussed with the probability theory. Differentiate
between the two.
6. What is De-fuzzification? Explain various methods of De-fuzzification with necessary
equations.
7. (a) Through a block diagram explain various components of a fuzzy logic controller. Name
various applications where it is used.
(b) Compare the fuzzy logic control and classical control system.
8. Design a fuzzy controlIer to design wash time of a fuzzy washing machine. Assume that the
inputs are dirt and grease on the cloths. Consider three input descriptors for the inputs and
five for the outputs. Derive a set of rules for control action and defuzzification. The design
should be supported by figures wherever possible. Clearly indicate that' if the clothes are
soiled to large degree the time required for washing is also more.
