Northern Ireland projects and programmes
 Belfast Transport Hub/Weavers Cross: a £175m facility that will link the Transport Hub providing
multimodal transport services in the heart of the city with mixed use development proposals
such as commercial, residential and amenity spaces.
 Belfast Rapid Transit (BRT): scheduled to open in September 2018, the network will link East
Belfast, West Belfast and the Titanic Quarter via City Centre. BRT will reduce public transport
journey times by 25-30.
 North-South Interconnector: completion will mean a secure supply through enabling the
Republic of Ireland to sell its excess supply to NI. Without it, Northern Ireland will be operating at
an energy deficit due to the forthcoming Kilroot Restrictions.
 Skills Development: ICE Northern Ireland has worked with government and industry to create
Work+, a civil engineering apprenticeship aimed at tackling the skills shortage. Apprentices
attend college on a day release basis for two years while working fulltime for their employer.
They have no fees and have a clear pathway to higher levels of qualification.
