What is the School Sport Premium? The School Sport Premium is a government funded initiative to support the development of physical education in primary schools. As a middle school with children in Years 5 and 6, we are eligible for this funding and will be using it to enhance the impact of sport on the children at GEMS. We will use this section of the website to detail, through articles and photographs, how we have used the funding to date and the plans we have for the future use of the money. This is to further widen the range of physical education activities we have on offer, as well as provide the children with additional opportunities to develop the social, emotional and personal skills that will serve them well in later life. How we use the School Sport Premium We currently provide 2 hours per week of high quality PE and Games to all children as part of our normal school timetable. Within our curriculum we offer our pupils numerous opportunities to compete both against themselves and others. We believe that this will help our pupils as individuals build their self-confidence, resilience, relationships, reflectiveness and resourcefulness. Our curriculum has been developed to enable all pupils to take part whether they are more or have additional needs. We also have a good attendance of pupils involving themselves in extra-curricular sporting activities and seek opportunities for the pupils to represent the school at sporting events and competitions. The additional funding will be used to supplement and enhance this provision by doing the following: To provide the opportunity for visits to off-site sporting facilities. To bring in specialist coaches and trainers to widen the experiences of the children and support existing staff both now and in the future. Developing the skills and expertise of existing staff to sustain high quality PE/Games provision over the longer term. Provide a greater range and frequency of after-school and extra-curricular sporting and related activities for all age groups in school. Raised attainment across Key Stages. Improved and wider provision across the school. Improved fitness and ability to make healthy choices The P.E. and Sports premium has been used and will continue be used to promote and develop these aims, as well as support teaching staff in their continuous professional development.
