2. Project information
Provide the scientific aim of the study, the objectives and the strategy/work plan to achieve these
objectives (use a maximum of 2,000 words, including footnotes and illustrations but excluding
literature references).
If the research proposal consists of specific sub-projects, per project a detailed and feasible work plan
should be given.
A Summary
B Keywords (max 5)
C Problem definition
Describe your main research question(s). Indicate the scientific and societal relevance of the main
research question(s).Indicate the uniqueness of the research question(s).
D Relevance to ABMP
Explain the relevance of the research project in relation to the objectives of the ABMP . Describe how
the research project bridges a gap between brain & mind oriented research approaches.
E Objectives – scientific aim
Give a clear and concise description of what the project aims to achieve and/or what expertise or
resources are built or strengthened? Specify targets and deliverables. Describe the feasibility of your
research outcome.
F Strategy - workplan
Describe the strategy (methods and analyses) that you intend to apply to answer the research
question or achieve the formulated objectives, including theoretical and/or empirical arguments.
Indicate the innovative character of your strategy.
G References (max 10)
Selection criteria:
Quality of the research proposal (20 points max, weighing 50 % in the final selection)
-
Is the project innovative (high risk high gain)? (max 5 points)
Is there a unique research question being proposed? (max 5 points)
Is the research project bridging the gap between brain & mind oriented research
approaches? (max 5 points)
Is a high impact research outcome feasible (are there preliminary data or insights
coming from the labs of (one of the) applicants that shed light on the putative
outcome of the project); in other words is there ‘proof of concept’ of the technology
being applied? (max 5 points)

3. Collaborative nature of the project (weighing 25% in selection procedure)
Describe in a maximum of 1000 words how the collaboration between VUA and the UvA/AMC is being
set up: provide detail on why this collaboration will provide surplus value to the outcome of the
project and the alliance between the various research groups involved. Also indicate the
complimentary and interdisciplinary aspects of the collaboration.
Give the rationale for the collaboration and choice of the primary ABMP research theme.
How will the collaboration contribute to a potential endurable alliance between VUA and UvA?
Describe how the project will go beyond existing collaborations?
Why is appointment of a coworker as post-doctoral fellow preferred?
Selection criteria:
Collaborative nature of the research proposal (10 points max, weighing 25 % in the final selection)
-
Is the project truly collaborative (i.e. ‘beyond business as usual’)? (max 5 points)
Are there arguments given that underscore the sense of urgency of the collaboration
or unique opportunity that this collaboration? (max 5 points)
