ACT II Brochure

All about Act II
Act II is not a club; it’s a state of mind for emptynesters. Act II is a pathway to stretching your mind,
serving others, and sharing good times while
growing spiritually. It’s about thriving throughout
this marvelous stage of life that is full to the
brim with opportunities for fun and friendship,
potential for growth, and countless ways to make
a difference!
Our Mission
To join together in fellowship to study and learn,
serve our church and the community, and support
and uphold one another. Whether we uniquely
tailor something for our group, sponsor a program
for all ages, or participate as a unit in a larger
community activity, we live out our mission in
meaningful and life-affirming ways.
Fellowship
Central Florida offers countless opportunities for
group activities, and we are happy to explore
any recommendation brought to our attention.
Act II events, sponsorships, and activities are
limited only by the interests and suggestions of
those involved! We encourage fresh perspectives,
innovative ideas, and expressions of interest. The

Mind-Expanding Studies
Act II is intentional about stimulating intellectual
growth through classes, such as “Family History
and Legacy.” The group also has studied such
books as Wild Goose Chase, Woman 2 Woman,
The Gift of Years, Living and Dying with Purpose
and Grace, Soul Unfinished, and Discernment:
The Art of Choosing Well.
Thought-Provoking Guest Speakers
Act II sponsors FUMCWP’s Speakers Series,
which covers a broad range of topics presented
by knowledgeable authorities. Speakers have
included: John Crossman, on Christians in the
work place; Dr. Ken Hanson, author and expert
on the Dead Sea Scrolls; Greg Dawson, who has
written several books on the Holocaust; Rollins
College President Dr. Lewis Duncan; Jodi Tassos,
leader of the Young at Heart singing group;
Chief Judge Belvin Perry on what’s new in the
judicial system; and Beth Kassab, whose topic
was “Inside the Orlando Sentinel.”
Abundant Living Series
Act II believes that now is the time to embrace the
next stage of life, to tap into passions previously
delegated to the sidelines, and to experience the
freedom and joy that come from living abundantly.
Act II sponsors the “Abundant Living Series” to
engage and inspire attendees of all ages to live
life more abundantly. We use abundant living to
represent a vital, active, and fulfilling stage of life
that can be the very best of all!
Wellness Initiative
Act II in collaboration with the Caring Ministry offers
a church wide Wellness Initiative which features
“Compelling conversations about living a balanced
and healthy lifestyle”. Topics are related to wellness
on all levels: physical, emotional, spiritual, and social
relationships. These programs are of great interest
for any age group, but especially Boomers and the
Act II group. Watch for the announced events which
are offered about six times a year.
Outreach & Community Service
In Act II, we understand the legacy we are building
through our belief that hearts and hands are made
to serve and our deep commitment to others—
especially those in need. Because we have more
time to devote to service at this point in our lives, we
are the first to step forward and say, “Pick me!”
There are countless ways that Act II members can
(and do) give back by volunteering for FUMCWP
outreach efforts and community service projects.
From serving pizza to patients at the Veteran’s
Hospital, to volunteering at a local food bank, to
sponsoring “Sharing Christmas” with families in the
South Street community, Act II members heed the
call to serve.
We are always seeking community service
opportunities and are open to ideas from all. Below
are a few of the many volunteer initiatives to which
many of our Act II folks have devoted numerous
hours of service:
• Sharing Christmas (yearly)
• Tuskawilla UMC Food Bank (monthly)
• South Street Ministry
• Bicycle Blessings*
• Interfaith Hospitality Network*
• Jobs Partnership*
*Through FUMCWP’s Local Outreach Ministry.
Act II Singles
Although there are many single participants in Act II, there has been a growing interest in activities that
are specifically designed with the single person in mind. For this reason, FUMCWP has created Act II
Singles. Still in its infancy, this group hopes to build a community group of singles who are 50’s, 60’s, and
70’s who seek a safe environment for friendly and supportive camaraderie.

But Will I Fit in?
There’s a place for you in Act II, no matter what.
Whether you are married or single, active or
slower-paced, there’s a place for you in Act II.
Whether you have been very involved with a
group in the church, have sort of lost touch, or
are new to our faith community, you will fit in
here.
The Good News about Growing Older
There are many great things about being
over 55! If you have children, chances are
they have outgrown their need for constant
attention. They may even be grown with
families of their own. If you are in the work
force, it’s likely that you’ve met many, if not
understanding and embracing the mind/
body/spirit connection is integral to
wholeness. And a positive attitude and
healthy outlook are the foundation for the
phase of life that we at FUMCWP refer to as
Act II.

stage of life, please join us—energized,
