Seven Steps to a Great Garage Sale 1. Advertise. Put an ad in the newspaper and post notices on free websites like Craigslist and Kijiji at least a week before your sale. On the night before or morning of your yard sale place large, clear signs throughout the neighbourhood. Make sure your signs are legible- use large block letters in dark ink. 2. Get cash. Get rolls of quarters, loonies, toonies and a few $5 bills from the bank. 3. Plan, plan, plan. Gather the items you are going to sell in advance and start grouping it together. This will help you when it comes time to display your items and let you know what you’ll need in the way of tables, boxes and clothes hangers. Make a game plan to so that you know what needs to be done when. This will make the day go a whole lot smoother. 4. Display it nicely. Decides how you want to display your items so that your sale is visually pleasing. Group similar items together and be sure to place your most alluring items near the front of your yard to attract more people. 5. Pricing. In general, you want to keep most items under $5 or a third of their original price, but use your best judgment- a scratched CD may go for less than 1/3 of the original price, but your vintage Ray Bans might go for over 1/3. Use masking tape as a price tag for individual items or make signs stating the price of similar items. 6. Let people know proceeds are going to CPAWS.
