Newsletter 8 5th May 2017 Dear Parents, Friends’ Meeting and Summer Fair date We had a meeting on Wednesday night, and are very pleased to announce the date of the Summer Fair on Saturday 24th June 3-5pm. We have been planning stalls which are firm favourites, and also adding in new ideas. We would be most grateful for offers of help to run stalls, so that people don’t get stuck on one stall all afternoon, and have the chance to browse. Thank you for adding your name to our list of volunteers for specific stalls. Help setting up and tidying away afterwards is also much appreciated. More information following soon from Friends. Friends of School – what does it mean? Every parent, member of staff or governor is automatically a member of the Friends of Bugthorpe School. The Friends fundraise and arrange social events and activities for the school. It may sound very formal, in actual fact meetings are very friendly and informal, where we get together and plan for the best interests of the children. If you want to have a say in how your contributions are spent, or if you have an idea on what we could do, please do come and help us generate more ideas. School Nursery Update As you know, we are preparing to extend our nursery opening hours in September. The Government are funding 30 hours nursery places for working parents. There is extra information on the East Riding website under FISH (Families’ Information Service Hub); http://www2.eastriding.gov.uk/living/childrenand-families/the-family-information-service-hub/ Please visit this page as it contains lots of useful info, including who is eligible, how to apply and what to do if your circumstances change. Thank you. Tennis at Bishop Wilton Marius Barnard is leading children’s tennis sessions again this year at Bishop Wilton village hall. A couple of great snippets for sporting news this month. First, Frankie reports about his cross country event, then KS1 children recount their 3– in-a-bucket tournament. The week before half term I did a Humber stage cross country final in somewhere near hull. My race, the year 5/6 boys race, was the very last race. We were all split into the area that we had qualified from by wearing coloured T-shirts. I finished thirteenth out of about 120 boys and beat every east riding qualifier aside from the winner meaning I am the 2nd fastest cross country runner in the east riding.
