National Service Members of Georgia, If you haven’t heard, Georgia Gives Day inspires individuals to donate to participating nonprofits with the goal of raising as much money as possible within a 24-hour period. GAgivesday.org makes donating easy by organizing hundreds of nonprofits across the state onto one website, providing the information people need to select a cause or charity of their choice, and enabling online donations by credit card or e-check. We need your help spreading the word and building the buzz before and on the day – together, we can co-create a fun way to galvanize the public to support local causes and to give where they live. The Georgia Center for Nonprofits is hosting a competition for all National Service members, and we want your help! Here are the rules: 1. Between today (Friday, 11/1) and next Monday (11/11), hang as many Georgia Gives Day posters or leave flyers (download here) in as many storefronts in your community as possible. Storefronts include grocery stores, banks, salons, libraries, malls, boutiques, restaurants & eateries, dry cleaners, gas stations, etc. For more information about Georgia Gives Day and participating nonprofits, click here. 2. Get permission from managers and owners to hang the posters or leave flyers in the storefronts until November 13th, 2013. Make sure to always say thank you & smile! 3 Collect the business, company, or storefronts name and address by filling out the attached form. If they have social media handles, collect that information as well. 4. Take fun pictures of you in each location that we can leverage online in our various social media channels. Prizes: The two individuals with the most businesses on their list and submit the requisite information and pictures by Monday, November 11th, 2013 will each win two roundtrip tickets courtesy of Southwest Airlines! All other participants will be featured in the Georgia Gives Day blog with the name of their favorite participating organization. A flashmob of giving! A statewide day of giving to support the important work and impact that nonprofits make in local communities. Georgia Gives Day is an opportunity for people to find a cause that matters to them and give where they live. The day does not support any specific cause; rather it engages the public through a collaborative campaign to support any cause they choose. Through a highly searchable database of nonprofits across the state on Gagivesday.org, citizens can key in an array of search terms, including type of cause, zip code, city, or nonprofit name and receive a list of nonprofit profiles from which they can learn more and give to directly. 100% of every donation goes directly to the nonprofit. How Can National Service Members Get Involved? By promoting Georgia Gives Day, you have the opportunity to support your sponsor organization and hundreds of nonprofits in the state of Georgia. The objective is to engage as many people as possible to support your cause or simply support any cause they care about on November 13th. We are working hard to engage the media to cover Georgia Gives Day and create a wave of awareness. As a national service member, you already do amazing work to support nonprofits around the state, while also working to eradicate poverty. By getting your nonprofit organization involved with Georgia Gives Day, you can continue to build support and awareness for the great work you do. Here’s How You Can Help: Enter the Georgia Center for Nonprofits contest for National Service Members or other Georgia “GivesAways,” and have the chance to win awesome prizes, including Southwest Airline tickets. You can also build comunity buzz by sending email blasts to donors and volunteers, building social media awareness, or putting the Georgia Gives Day logo on your homepage. Create a Public Challenge. People love a challenge. Create a public match challenge using funds that you have already secured from an event or a donor. Challenge the public to help you double that amount. Become a Personal Friend-Raiser. As an active supporter of your sponsor organization, consider becoming a personal friend-raiser! Create a fun and challenging fundraising goal to meet on or before Georgia Gives Day, and consider asking friends and other national service members to match your goal. The GA Gives platform allows also your supporters to create their own profile pages to create a link between new donors and your organization, with only a few steps on your part!. On the Day of: Create a Georgia Gives Day champion team. Encourage your team to give consistent shout out’s throughout the day to their friends and community, updating your audiences on the support you are getting, and making calls to action. We have many fun donor engagement games on the day that can help your causes make even more money. Georgia Gives Day A Great Opportunity for National Service Members! 2013 Goal: To increase giving to nonprofits across Georgia and get more than 10,000 people to donate online through GAGives.org in 24 hours. The event also hopes to help nonprofits attract new donors. Background: The brainchild of the nonprofit, public and private sectors and spearheaded by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, Georgia Gives Day launched in 2012 as a co-created nonprofit fundraising initiative. Our corporate partners include Coca-Cola, Mohawk, SunTrust, Wells Fargo, Georgia Power, Auto Trader, Southwest Airlines, and Gas South among others. Our nonprofit leadership group includes 50 of Georgia’s renowned cause leaders including the Red Cross, United Way, Georgia Council for the Arts, Goodwill(s), Jewish Federation, Humane Societies, Georgia Food Bank Association, Georgia Legal Services, Families First, Georgia Council Against Domestic Violence, etc. Georgia Gives Day 2012 was also supported by pro-bono media partners such as Edelman Public Relations, Ames Scullin O’Haire Advertising, Encyclomedia, Outdoor Advertising Association of Georgia, GA Cable Association, Cox Media Group, Channel 11, and the Georgia Association of Broadcasters including over 40 television and over 50 radio stations throughout Georgia. Elected officials have also recognized and supported the mission of Georgia Gives Day since its launch, including Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Secretary of State Brian Kemp, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle and Governor Nathan Deal, who officially proclaimed November 13, 2013 as Georgia Gives Day. In 2012, Gives Day event where over 7000 people donated $800,000 to over 1300 nonprofits throughout Georgia. The 2013 event aims to engage 15,000+ donors and create a large awareness campaign about the impact nonprofits create on local communities. We hope to raise in excess of $1M in 2013.
