Urban Pioneers! During this half term, Year 3 will become Urban

English
In the second part of the Autumn Term, whilst writing, we will be
informing our readers by writing non-chronological reports. We will start
by having a mini-sports day to get excited about different sports, and
then learn all about non-chronological reports to get to know their
features and how they work. We will plan, rehearse and give verbal
reports, before writing our own reports and creating a Class 3LW and
Class 3MC Book of Sport! Finally we will have a ‘book launch’ in the library
for our class books!

researching significant buildings, structures and landmarks that make
these cities unique. Children will explore the artwork that can be found in
cities, including Graffiti art, and will complete an ‘Urban Art’ workshop, as
well as designing a mural for the Berlin Wall. Using all of this research,
children will take part in an innovative task where they will design and
make their own piece of Urban Art for their town centre. In Science we

Supporting Your Child at Home
Reading
In Year 3 the children will change their reading books
independently and may change their reading books every day, if
they are ready to. They will have a reading log in their book bags, in
which we welcome you to write comments when your child has read
to you. We will also write in these logs when your child has read to
an adult at school so you can see the progress they are making.
We encourage you to read with your child at home as often as
possible, even 10 minutes every day is invaluable!
Homework
Each child in Year 3 has a Home Challenge book. In which all their
homework will be given. Every Friday the children will be given 1
piece of English homework, 1 piece of Mathematics homework and a
set of spellings for them to practice at home. Homework will be
collected in the following Wednesday. There is an expectation that
the children will spend 20 minutes on each part of their homework.
Topic Task
There will be occasional topic homework that supports the learning
as it develops in the classroom. Of course your child may wish to
independently research or discover new facts at home. We really
encourage this and look forward to sharing independent homework
such as this in the lesson time and displaying such independence for
others to use.
PE Days
Children will need their PE kits on Thursdays and Fridays.
